Black Moon Sing: An Urban Fantasy Novella of Shapeshifters vs. Vampires (The Turquoise Path Book 1) by L. M. Hawke
Black Moon Sing (The Turquoise Path Book 1) - L. M. Hawke

Black Moon Sing: An Urban Fantasy Novella of Shapeshifters vs. Vampires (The Turquoise Path Book 1) by L. M. Hawke is a gripping book about the paranormal.

I received a complimentary Kindle copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review. I gave it four stars.

"A dark force is targeting a secret enclave of shapeshifters in the desert southwest, delivering them to grisly fates. Suspected of witchery and cast out of her human society, it's up to Ellery Chee, a lone coyote shifter, to stop this dangerous magician before her world is destroyed."

Hero Rising, The Four Book Secret Guardians Boxed Set, Secret Guardians Book #1 by H.T. Night
Hero Rising (Secret Guardians Book 1) - H.T. Night

Hero Rising, The Four Book Secret Guardians Boxed Set, Secret Guardians Book #1 by H.T. Night is a grand adventure. I gave it four stars.

The Tandra world are humans. Josiah goes on a crusade to help them escape the evil that surrounds them. He becomes a protector and superhero. He is also a vampire and a werewolf but is not immortal.

He heads for New York along with Tommy, the werewolf. Tommy was engaged to his sister before the accident killed her and her parents. After that, they bonded and were like brothers. Tommy now is a coach for MMA fighters.

Josiah flew in his eagle form to San Bernardino where he came across a building on fire with people trapped. "But fire. Yeah, I was cautious about my own hide like that. But there was no way I could turn my back on the....If I didn't help, if I walked away from people who could have been saved; it would haunt me for the rest of my days."

I bought it and read it in one sitting. I look forward to reading Hero Unbound (Secret Guardians Book 2).

Call of Shadows by Terry Maggert
Call of Shadows - Terry Maggert

Call of Shadows: A Fearless Series Short Story (The Fearless Book 0) by Terry Maggert is a puzzling short story about a monster and her Helper. I gave it four stars.

The simple cross was used as bait. "Less than two feet high, of a simple design, the roadside monument was like the thousands of others that dot the rural South and elicit a sympathetic what a shame or intemperate thoughts of just desserts for rowdy youth."

It Sleeps at Dawn by Anthony Renfro
It Sleeps at Dawn - Anthony Renfro

It Sleeps at Dawn by Anthony Renfro is a short horror story. It has homonyms and typos so I gave it four stars.

An unnamed woman awoke not knowing where she was. Then discovered stained glass windows with frightening scenes of vampires. She ran to a door and struggled to open it.

Outside she met a man she'd seen the night before but did not go home with him. She was sure of that. "He smiled at her, an evil dark eat you alive from head to toe smile, which revealed large white fangs..."

There was two Bonus Short Stories: The Living Sand which I had read and reviewed before. Also Fear of the Scarecrow.

The Rosegiver by Sandy Benitez
The Rosegiver - Sandy Benitez

The Rosegiver by Sandy Benitez is a horror, young adult book set in the late 1800s in rural England. Rachel Harper travels to her aunt's home, the Rosethorne Inn in Thistlegrove. She learns from a writer, John, who is also traveling to the inn that several young girls are missing. Rachel is frightened but feels safe when she arrives.

While Rachel waited in the train depot, she observed: "professionally dressed gentlemen in black wool suits huddled together like a murder of crows, discussing the business of the day."

"Sighing, she grabbed another lemon drop from her purse and plopped it into her dry mouth. She loved the tart taste but it always seemed to cause her mouth to twist in a funny manner when it first hit her tongue. She wondered how many strangers had witnessed the odd distortion on her face when she ate one and if they thought she was well or suffering from some unknown ailment."

Ronan is a graveminder and employed as a 'Jack of all trades' by her Aunt Judith. The language is flowery but suitable for the timeframe.

Mysterious happenings took place. Can they find the kidnapper before Rachel is harmed? Can this situation be solved?

It kept my attention, so I gave it five stars. Unfortunately, the Kindle edition I received had awkward breaks with the book's title, page numbers or the author's name inserted in strange places. I found that very distracting.

I received a complimentary Kindle copy from Createspace and NetGalley. That did not change my opinion for this review.
