Tee'd up, where will it go...
The Wrong Girl (Book 1 of the 1st Freak House Trilogy) - C.J. Archer

This was a fun read and I definitely enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was well written and edited, which is important to me. The story didn't have much there, there, it felt like a set up for the later books (which it appears it is, so that's ok). I liked the characters, Hannah's smart, has a backbone, and while we do get a little "sigh, he's so dreamy" it fits within the context and doesn't get out of hand. I've seen a lot of other reviewers just love Sylvia's character, however I'm withholding judgement since I didn't feel like we learned really anything about her other than she loves to shop and is a stickler for propriety, which, "yes yes, how adorbs," is not terribly interesting to me so far. I will say that I figured out the twist pretty much from the get go, but there's still a fair amount of mystery to go, so that's good. All in all this felt like a season premiere, a little exposition heavy, but leading towards something cool and interesting. I'm definitely interested in reading the rest of this series and the other books I've seen around by this author.

TL;WIHR
Shadow of Night - Deborah Harkness

Honestly, this was boring, and kind of bad. For a book about witches and magic, there was very little of either. I actually really enjoyed the first one, A Discovery of Witches: A Novel (All Souls Trilogy) - Deborah Harkness , it was a good "beach book." You know, kinda mindless, pace moved pretty quickly, kinda fun setting, but this one, blergh.

I was going to write a fuller review, but I think tl;wihr* will suffice.

(*too long, wish I hadn't read)
