Southern Playboy (North Carolina Highlands) by: Jessica Peterson
Southern Playboy (North Carolina Highlands) - Jessica Peterson

Southern Playboy by Jessica Peterson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Southern Playboy is a redemption song that lures the heart into it's melody. Peterson spins a tale of hard choices and missed chances that tell the story of life. Rhett and Amelia are learning the language of love, even as they break each others hearts. From young love to adult heartache, Amelia and Rhett are a soul cleanser that makes you stop and think. I was swept away.

Book Review: North or Be Eaten by Andrew Peterson
North! or Be Eaten - Andrew Peterson

North! Or Be Eaten is the second book of this Wingfeather Saga series. Though we start in Glipwood forest it seems like we get a bit about Tink and Janner and the Igiby family. I would suggest reading book 1 first. Though, I only got book 2. It was just as good without needing to read book 1. Though, I think it would be best if you want to know how and why we start where we do in “North!, or Be Eaten.”

We seem to be following Janner the most throughout the book. Though we get glimpses Tink. It seems that both Tink and Janner are what this book is about. Though the way Igiby family acts will they be able to survive.

What will happen to Janner and Tink and Leeli? Will they be able to stick together. Will they be killed by the Fang of Dang or the Stranders? I got the feeling something is up with their grandfather. Who wants the Igiby grandfather?

Will the sibling embrace their special talent or gifts? Will they allow Fangs and Gnag the nameless and others to betray them. It was an enjoyable read. Though a bit of it made me take a while to read. Once you get into the book it adventure of a ride.

The images that are drawn are wonderful. I love them. The author does a wonderful job of writing the story. I was more surprised at how it ends. There are quite a few twisted and turns throughout the book. Young adults and children will enjoy this book/ series. Good for middle-grade children and up.

The book is really clean and teaches some lessons as well as throughout the book. You would be surprised that this teaches about the importance of family, grace, friendship, trust, and sibling rivalry

Southern Heartbreaker (Charleston Heat #4) by: Jessica Peterson
Southern Heartbreaker (Charleston Heat #4) - Jessica Peterson

Walking through heartache is a reminder that we're strong enough to make it through to the other side. Perhaps that's why I love the Charleston Heat series so much. Peterson and her captivating characters prove that through life's ups and love's downs, there is always a reason to smile. Southern Heartbreaker takes past regrets and turns them into present hope. Ford left behind his bad boy ways when he met the love of his life. His little girl, Bryce. When a blast from his past awakens his long dormant heat, Ford discovers what happiness truly means. From cloudy days to tempted hearts, battered egos and fresh starts, Peterson and her cast of heartbreakers, give emotions something to sing about.

Review: The Strangers by Margaret Peterson Haddix
The Strangers (The Greystone Secrets #1) - Margaret Peterson Haddix

The Strangers by Margaret Peterson Haddix is the first book in the Greystone Secrets. Chess, Emma, and Finn Greystone always knew who they were, but things change when three other children with the same names and birth dates catch their attention.

This was an extremely interesting and fun read. I loved the characters, and the mystery that Margaret Peterson Haddix creates kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend this book to lovers of middle grade mystery.

REVIEW BY MERISSA - Lord of the Last Heartbeat (The Sacred Dark #1) by May Peterson
Lord of the Last Heartbeat (The Sacred Dark #1) - May Peterson

@maidensblade, #MM#Fantasy#Romance, 4 out of 5 (very good)

LORD OF THE LAST HEARTBEAT is the first book in the Sacred Dark series, and we focus on Mio and Rhodry. Both of these have secrets and 'powers' that have an effect on their lives. Mio no longer wants to 'help' his mother, but can't see a way out. Rhodry is intrigued by the younger man, but fears trying anything due to the curse he is living under.

What a fantastical world Ms Peterson has invented, with a hint of American Civil War era, coupled with the English Victorian period, this was a great combination of worlds. And yes, I realise I may have the time periods wrong, but that is what it reminded me of!

I loved how the story for both Rhodry and Mio came out slowly, the reader learning bits and pieces of it until it all fell together. Their relationship was the same way, a slow burner with temptation and resistance.

This was an intriguing tale, with plenty of mystery and misdirection thrown in. An amazing cast of characters helps to move the story along.

A wonderful start to the series, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Absolutely recommended by me.
