I cannot deal with any more of this today. Not because it's so bad but because it's so brilliant at describing the horrible conditions and how they affect the people and there's only so much mysery, racism, sectarianism, child-murder and child-prostitution I can stomach in one day.

The main character has a very complicated and somewhat messed-up relationship with his brother. Yet they do care about each other.

I love that trope.
