Lights to My Siren: Heroes of Dixie Wardens MC Series, Book 1
Lights to My Siren: Heroes of Dixie Wardens MC Series, Book 1 - Lidia Dornet,Tantor Audio,Lani Lynn Vale,Tristan James Mabry

Lights to My Siren is book 1 of the Dixie Wardens MC series. Bailey is an EMT who has moved to Kilgore Texas for a fresh start. Sebastian is a fire fighter and VP of the Dixie Wardens MC. These two meet by chance and sparks fly. They have a lot of struggles-Sebastian has a son, both of their work schedules are crazy, and Sebastian isn't exactly open about his life in the MC.

In the beginning, I was not a fan of Bailey. She is kind of judgmental. She assumes then worst about Sebastian and then seems surprised when he isn't a thug. However, as the story goes on, I liked Bailey more and Sebastian less. Sebastian is HORRIBLE sometimes. He keeps her totally in the dark about the club, then gets pissed when she doesn't seem to know. Then he gets pissed at her about all kinds of things. He doesn't ever discuss anything with her but barks and yells. I felt like he was so stubborn and expected Bailey to change to meet his expectations.

The story is mostly a string of events as opposed to one over arching storyline. I think this method of storytelling allows the reader/listener to not get bored. It also makes the relationship feel more natural. So, I give Vale kudos for this method because it makes for a good listen.

Lidia Dornet narrated another book I listened to previously (When I Need You) and I really enjoyed her narration. She does a great job of really 'performing' the story. Tristan James is a new to me narrator and he did a fine job. He has the slight twang down pat and his female voices aren't annoyingly overdone.
"I read to escape reality not to deal with characters dying"

This quote from Bailey is perfect and so true!
  • POV: dual 1st
  • Tears: no
  • Trope: MC Club
  • Triggers: none
  • Series/Standalone: stand alone
  • Cliffhanger: no
  • HEA:

...then you will probably like Lights to my Siren!

Kevlar To My Vest (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC, #3) by Lani Lynn Vale Review
Kevlar To My Vest (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC) (Volume 3) - Lani Lynn Vale

You’re the Kevlar…

Behind the badge and the pretty face was a heart. A heart that bled just like the rest. A heart that was so in love with Viddy Sheffield that it was humiliating. Trance had been burned before by a woman that couldn’t handle the fact that he risked his life each and every time he went on shift. She was too vulnerable; somehow he had to convince his heart to let her go. His life would chew her up and spit her out.

To My…

Viddy couldn’t get the man out of her head. Just the thought of Trance put a smile on her face. And when he walked into the same room? Words couldn’t explain. God help her, but she was even in a relationship with another man. She shouldn’t be thinking about the sexy biker with the voice that made shivers dance down her spine.

Vest…

Then the unthinkable happens, and the sexy cop she can’t stop thinking about is there for her, giving her what she never knew she needed. One moment in time, and she finds herself falling for the man, lock, stock, and barrel. The two of them have a lot of work to do to make this relationship succeed. What they didn't know, however, was that there were people behind the scenes that were working to keep them apart. Sometimes the saying is true. You can’t always have what you want.

Review

There is lots to like about this book: the dogs, the sisters bickering, the hero.

The romance felt so good as a secondary romance in the last book in the series.

But Viddy does a lot of things it is hard for me to swallow for such a bright woman. The book doesn't give me enough time to reconcile those things.

Oh spoiler. Viddy changes in a way that I think is a cop out even though it takes place mainly in the epilogue.

So, I was disappointed.

Keys To My Cuffs (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC, #4) by Lani Lynn Vale Review
Keys To My Cuffs (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC) (Volume 4) - Lani Lynn Vale

You’re the Keys

Loki’s life was a lie. Everything he’d done for the last eight years was under an assumed name for the Benton Police Department. He’d lied, cheated, and stolen all in the name of the law. He wore himself thin, and not even the open road could take away the pain anymore. Then his little next door neighbor moved in, and suddenly he had a reason to get out of bed every morning. Except he was an officer of the law, and a member of a prominent motorcycle club in the area, The Dixie Wardens MC. Neither of which she could deal with.

To My

It wasn’t the scars that covered her new neighbor’s body that scared Channing. It was the badge. The fact that he belonged to The Dixie Wardens MC was only icing on the cake. She should be running away as fast as her legs could carry her. But there’s something about Bryce ‘Loki’ Rector. Something that eased the unreasonable fear she felt every time she came into contact with something that reminded her of her past.

Cuffs

They say love isn’t easy, and it definitely isn’t for the two of them. Loki has to learn to feel again, and Channing has to learn to live. Their road isn’t an easy one by any means, but Loki makes two promises. One, he’ll never let anything hurt Channing again. Two, it’d be over his dead body that he’d ever let her go.

Review

This is the lighter side of the motorcycle club sub genre with the bikers all being civil servants.

There is good humor here and the epilogue is particularly funny but I never settled into this book.

The hero and heroine are hurting and they hurt each other. I never see the kind of safe place I long for them both so the romance doesn't end up working for me.

Halligan To My Axe (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC, #2) by Lani Lynn Vale Review
Halligan To My Axe (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC) (Volume 2) - Lani Lynn Vale

You’re the Halligan...

Kettle had it all. Until he didn't.
He lost it all in a moment. One heart stopping, soul shattering moment, and there wasn't a single thing he could do about it.
From that day forward, he stayed away from relationships.
Then he responded to a possible fire and there she was, rocking his world when he didn't want it to be rocked.

To My...

Adeline was just a schoolteacher. She lived a boring life.
Until she stole something.
And it didn't have anything to do with the sexy firefighter’s heart.
Oh, she stole that, too, even if he didn't want it to be stolen.

Axe...

Kettle didn't realize just what kind of trouble Adeline was in until it nearly ripped her from his life.
There was no way anything was taking that away from him.
Not again.
One man was about to see up close and personal what fury looked like on the face of The Dixie Wardens MC’s enforcer.

Review

The heroine is this book is very funny and the hero and heroine together are really funny. There is a sweet/sour relationship between the heroine and her twin that I also enjoyed.

The plot is crazy sauce but we get a lot of couple time. However, some of the plot twists crashed and burned for me.

There are moments that made me uncomfortable such as the depiction of Kettle's ex girlfriend being talk about with hate filled language. It is hard to describe because it is just a moment or two in the book but it should have been edited out because it didn't make me like or care or understand any of the characters doing it.

So, not great but not bad.

Lights To My Siren (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC, #1) by Lani Lynn Vale Review
Lights To My Siren (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC) (Volume 1) - Lani Lynn Vale

ou’re The Lights...

Sebastian had one rule.

No women on the back of his bike. Period.

The one time he broke that rule, he killed the woman that was carrying his child.

Then comes Baylee Roberts. She makes Sebastian want to break every single rule he’d ever implemented. Hell, but she even makes him consider that dreaded H word. A helmet.

To My...

Baylee Roberts innocently walked into her bathroom never expecting that she’d find a man in there. It is her bathroom after all, and she lives alone.

From the instant he placed his hat on her head to protect her from the sun, Baylee’s mind becomes filled with thoughts of a certain biker.

She really shouldn't go there. There’s no telling what kind of dangerous things he does for The Dixie Wardens MC.

Siren...

Nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Their relationship’s one of them.

Baylee’s brother is a cop. Baylee’s father is a cop. Which inevitably means that Baylee’s going to have certain hang-ups about being with a man like himself.

Sebastian has a lot on his plate with his busy job as a firefighter, a single father, and the vice president of The Dixie Wardens MC.

Not enough, though, to keep him away from Baylee.
When a series of arsons rattle their hometown and puts Sebastian’s life on the line, Baylee finally realizes the only fire Sebastian can’t put out is the one inside her heart.

Review

I enjoyed the zazz of the heroine and the hero. The world is interesting enough. I am reviewing this book a while after I read it. Not all that much is lingering but my like of the heroine and that this was on the sweet side of biker romance.

I liked it well enough to want to read the next books series.
