Good for erotica lovers
Paranormal Protection Agency: Volume 2 - Mina Carter

OK, remember my review of Milly Taiden’s Federal Paranormal Unit series? I talked about how her books usually had good storylines to go along with the “bow chicka bow bow” and how much I enjoyed having a good story to read along with my dose of “down and dirty.”

Well, as much as I like stories about shifters working together for law and order and justice for all, and as much as I wanted this series to have a good story to go with aforementioned down and dirty . . . this didn’t do it for me. Of course, others think all the bedroom (and floor, and kitchen counter, and couch, etc.) calisthenics is just fine without a good story, and more power to them. But for me, without a good story it is simply a rather big disappointment.

All the stories in this two volume set are more along the lines of ‘erotica’ than ‘paranormal romance’ and none have a real story line at all. The business itself (the PPA) is simply a set piece, a flat painted background that never really does anything.

The only story I really could get a bite of was “Seduced by Santa” a story I had read before. Candice Kane adores Christmas, and has moved away from her rich, self-centered family to work and live in the poorest part of town to help disadvantaged children. When her community center is trashed she is afraid her Christmas for the children is destroyed. And when she is attacked in an alleyway she is sure her life is over with as well. Enter an unrelenting Christmas-hating Santa Elf, and things get interesting. Can they work together to save Christmas for the children?

Overall, if you are a fan of erotica without all the whips and chains, check this out, but don’t expect much story with the stories.

Whips & Chains & Candy Canes
Whips & Chains & Candy Canes - F.L. Bicknell

This was disappointing.  The story needs further proofreading - typos and misspelled words.  The heroine, Jilly, is emotionally juvenile.  She's been "dating" Ford for a month and wonders why he won't have sex with her.  He tells her he's going to be out of touch for a few days and after not hearing from him for a week, when he said he would call her, she immediately assumes he's dumped her and freaks out on him and runs away from him the next time he approaches her.  She was previously married and her husband was bad in bed and supposedly uncaring in general, so she's emotionally scarred and sexually repressed.  Ford just intuits this and shows the most amazing amount of patience ever while she continually doubts his intentions.  After dating for a MONTH.

The characters just seemed like cardboard cutouts.  And forgiving her best friend Ava after her lies?  I don't think so.  Still speaking to maintain the peace?  Sure.  But "besties" would be out the window.

Trying to read The Companion and my disappearing tablet!
The Companion (The Submissive Heart Book 1) - Michelle Knight

I should have bought a physical copy because I have a 14 year old boy as a houseguest this week and him and I are going to end up in a boxing match over my tablet. As soon as I shuffle back through the book and refresh my brain on what has happened so far...Austin strikes again and poof...TABLET GONE! Would it be wrong to beat the crap out of a friend's 14 year old son?

HERE'S WHAT I HAVE READ SO FAR:

Susan is in a rut. She continually allows people to take advantage of her kindness and never receives the appreciation or gratitude for all that she freely does for those around her. By living her life to please everyone else she has no clue how to make herself happy and feels desperate for a change. She is getting nowhere with counseling and after years of seeing no progress her counselor threatens to section her if she doesn't do something to try and better her life. Out of desperation she talks her colleague Pat into going to local pub with her to have drinks. She meets Gary, the owner of the pub, after getting a little banged up after an altercation with a drug dealer. Gary takes her to his room he keeps for himself in the bar to let her get cleaned up. Susan notices the room is decorated with photos depicting BDSM scenes with various naked women and men bound with ropes and chains.

I usually take those down when I have visitors.”

They're...um...”

Real. Yes. Most of them.”

I don't understand.”

Susan reminds Gary of what he had been like many years ago. She looks tired. In her he saw his chance to pay forward the kindness he had been shown when he was lost. Gary acts as guide for Susan into the 'scene' (BDSM community) and gets the wheels turning on finding a dominant partner for her. Mark, The dominant is reluctant to go forward with another relationship. His last relationship ended when his partner K died of lung cancer a couple of years ago.

I am really enjoying this book. I like the writing style and that this isn't type book written for the purpose of masturbation. This is BDSM written by an author who actually knows 'the scene' and has lived the life. After reading what I have so far I realize that books like 50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James  and The Professional by Kresley Cole have gotten it wrong on many levels.
