I could not like Bruno, and I don't care he is only 9-years-old, he is just a kid, etc. Why being a kid is always an excuse for everything? He was selfish, egocentric, very 'naive' (unrealistically) and 'nice'; so 'nice; he denied he knew poor Schmuel, when he needed him the most. And he forgot the ...

A disappointment. As many others have pointed out, not a realistic 9-year old and not very well-written. I know that the 'how' of the holocaust in real life has often been met with "ich habe es nicht gewüsst", but even when considering that, the 9-year old main character to me just seems way too nai...

I love reading about this period in the history, mostly because it plays a role in my own countrys history. SPOILER!!!!!!!The book didnt make me cry, the movie did. I would have liked if Bruno's death meant more than it did. It was as if it didnt matter.

The best part of the book was the plot. I really liked the concept and it had a really good ending. However, it wasn't well written and the only parts I found interesting were those at the gate of the concentration camp. I also don't think it was a great depiction of children in Nazi Germany. I like...

Wow. I think this might just be the only book I've read in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. This story is told through the eyes of 9 year old Bruno, who as a result of his father's "important" work promotion is moved along with his mother and sister Gretel to "Out With". There from his new ...

Wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. Wish I wouldn’t have. Now I remember why I do not read a lot of YA. I do admit some are good ... but most seem very poorly written. Then someone says "it's a young adult, made to read easy" - really? I do not believe just because it's YA that basic wri...

I had high expectations for this book due to friend reviews and seeing the movie. Even though there were a few things that annoyed me in the movie, I thought it was well done and expected at least a 4 star book. Instead, it turned into a case where I thought the concept and perspective of the book w...

I've had this book on my To-Read list for a long time, since I really enjoy reading books of this kind. I haven't seen the movie, and I really had no idea what to expect from this one. That being said, I wish I could have liked it more than I did. This story is told in 3rd person limited, from the p...
