5 stars for being a ludicrously entertaining soap opera. The most lurid, overdone philosophical text I've ever read (probably because I haven't gotten to Atlas Shrugged yet).Whether you agree with Rand's ideas or not (please say you don't!), it's pretty damn entertaining to watch them played out via...

Excellent book; don't read it if you have a crappy job for which you sacrificed your ideals. It'll make you feel like a loser.

This book is difficult. Once I struggled through it, I adored the characters and their struggle for understanding, but it did take me a while. It's definitely not a beach-read ... it takes concentration, but I think it's worth it.

I have a complicated relationship with The Fountainhead. I first read it when I was 22, and actually fantasized about being Howard Roark. So strong, principled and uncompromising! As a teenager, like most teenagers brought up well, I loved all of Ayn Rand's work. Now I obviously see the flaws, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a great book that should be read by ambitious teenagers for a long long time.

I read this mostly because one of my students back in high school was reading it. She was reading it for an essay contest, so in order to help out, I felt I needed to read the book as well. When I read it, I found myself identifying with the character of Roark at times and his struggle against conve...

This is the only Ayn Rand book I might recommend to someone but it comes with a half-hearted recommendation. It is a soap opera with ideas. It is an entertaining read that allows the reader to ingest the Ayn Rand ideology in a half-way interesting tale about the struggles of an architect. Unfortunat...
