This book is a mystery with some thriller elements. There is nothing wrong with the book, but I do not see why it became a phenomenon. There is a mystery with another mystery book-ending the main mystery. I was not entranced by that, because when we came back to the book-ending mystery I did not ...

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is Lisbeth Salander, a young woman who is a product of the Swedish care system, designated incapable of looking after herself and her finances: therefore it is necessary for someone to look after them for her. Mikael Blomkvist is a journalist who has just been sued fo...

I gave it almost 200 pages, and I still didn't care about the story or anyone in it. Occasionally, two or three pages would peak my interest, only to be followed by ten to twenty pages of exposition and backstory, generally delivered via monologue and/or research report. I hear it has a great finish...

5 Stars - And I would give 15 more if I couldThe first in the Millenium triology is laying the groundwork for a whole series. Millenium was supposed to be more than a triology, there should have been six books in total. Unfortunately, Stieg Larrson passed away before he could finsh more then three b...

Did I enjoy this book? I'm considering going out and getting the sequels tomorrow. I suppose that's a yes. Did I think it was as good as the hype made it out to be? I'm idling over getting the next book from the library rather than new. No, I do not think it deserved the hype and praise. My #1 iss...

It's interesting to consider what sort of books become "international sensations." For example, there's The Alchemist, with its allegorical wisdom, crossing cultural divides and moving hearts. It's been a best seller now for years. There's Da Vinci Code, with it's clever plot and revelatory conclusi...

Parts of it were horrible to read, but I loved it. The rape scene and the torture scene were difficult to read, especially as my memory works way better than my imagination. I saw the American version of the movie first and so, was able to remember the very graphic way it was filmed as I was reading...

My mother gave me her copy of this while I was home on maternity leave with long stretches of time trapped beneath a sleeping infant -- otherwise, I surely never would have gotten through it. The first third of the book or more was full of irritatingly dull backstory about financial fraud in Sweden....
