The Grownup starts off flawless with an amazing protagonist, sharp wit and gradually darkening plot that races off into the sunset of mediocrity at about the halfway point. Not horrible, by any means, but could have been (should have been) freaking epic. I hate it when that happens.

Damn, Gillian, you fooled me again.She is better when she's observational and in characterization than an action writer. Curious that she wrote this for George R. R. Martin, and somehow it shows, because I feel like this could be very interesting if turned into a full length novel, not just a novell...

I literally finished this in an hour... Classic Gillian Flynn, with just the right mix of mind-fuckery to keep you guessing. Way to much monologing though, but then again without it the story would've been even shorter! No one can deny she's a brilliant writer though.
