I'll be honest; I only made it halfway through this book. I thought the backstory and setting were interesting and promising - it was certainly a different spin on Steampunk. Unfortunately, I cannot overlook the behavior of the Iron Duke. I don't care what kind of awful backstory he has - it made...

For a long time, this was a 4 star book for me. Then I got to 70% of it or so, and actually got a bit bored. The ending felt both drawn out, rushed, and disappointing. I am more and more getting the impression that all romance novel authors belong to a sect of some sort, where they have artistic fre...

I was waiting to receive this book in the Italian translation through interlibrary loan. I've been waiting for more than a month now, and my patience was growing thin, so I decided to go with the English version. I'm still going to borrow the Italian book, when I can finally get my hands on it, beca...

[Spoiler alert](I don't normaly write 'reviews' or thought about things I read/see, so this will probably look like rubbish, but it's a learning experience for me).I wanted to read this mostly because it's steampunk, and I really wanted to get more into the fiction-part of it. I've had a reading dow...

As a rule I do not read much in the Romance genre. But I have been pleasantly surprised when I have wandered off the ranch, and when two GR Friends whose opinions I respect enthusiastically reviewed this book and its sequel, I jumped the fence and wandered off into the brush. I still might have resi...

Surprised that I liked it as much as I did. The developing romance was heart-wrenchingly tender, as both Mina and Rhys fought to overcome their barriers. Just wish there was an epilogue of some sort to show how more of their future turned out.

This is like the Parasol Protectorate series only in that they are both steampunk. This one has a darker edge to it. Not that Parasol Protectorate is all light a fluffy, but still. i really like both Mina and Trahaearn (whose name I will NEVER spell again-he's the Iron Duke, that's easier) (when I t...

In which China conquers the known world not with cheaply priced chachkes to be sold in Wal-Mart, but with nanotechnology and mind rays....Kidding. Sort of.In the alternate history of The Iron Duke, an Asian culture known has the Horde conquered vast swaths of Europe by infecting their opponents with...

Comments: Skimming some of the reviews, just before I began reading this book, I was almost convinced not to even start it. Steampunk is relatively new to me. I'm pretty sure I haven't read any, and some of those reviews had me wondering whether I'd like this author's take on the genre. I've read sc...
