I started to re-read the early books of Anita Blake just to keep in mind the reason why I originally liked this series so much, and why now, I am truly tired of all the BDSM aspects of this series, and pray that LKH hears us and changes her course. Especially, eliminating a whole slew of characters ...

4.5 stars. This is such a great story. Good mystery. Surprises and very spooky. The subject matter is very disturbing and shocking. Anita is strong yet vulnerable. And there is always a question of how she will survive or get out of a situation. I look forward to reading the next one.

I have to stop. It's not because it's a horrible book with horrible protagonists (it isn't) but for the zombies. I hate zombies. They're disgusting and not really that frightening. They're slow, very slow and instead of running away you can just walk, dance or hop away. It's just not my thing.

It's funny reading these books, especially if you carry the book around with you. People make all sorts of interesting comments. I enjoyed this book. It was hard for me to put it down.

Much better than the first, and I heard that the 3rd one is even better. I hope this series gets better - there are 18 of them right now! So hopefully we can start getting into some deeper stuff, although I liked the issue in this one.

Despite my frustration at the very slow pace of the Anita/Jean-Claude pairing (Anita doesn't even get a single KISS in this one!), Anita is one badass female heroine! She's smart, tough, sexy and witty. In addition to Anita's characterization, the plot was enjoyably dark. There's a zombie on the l...

As I reread this series I am aware of just how much it has changed and mutated into something completely different from the original books. The Laughing Corpse is book #2 and focuses almost completely on Anita's zombie raising duties and her job helping the police on Spook Squad. This book is horri...

"It's not my blood. I've got a bite on the shoulder, that's it."She looked like she didn't believe me. I didn't blame her. Most people see you covered in blood, they just assume part of it has to be yours. They do not take into account that they are dealing with a tough-as-nails vampire slayer and c...

Anita Blake can raise the dead, and is usually willing to pay the price (killing a chicken). However, the older the zombie, the higher the cost, and to meet overtly wealthy Harold Gaynor's requirements she'll have to make a human sacrifice. Anita may be known as the Executioner, but there are some t...
