When I was really young, my mother would narrate to me the classics and historical stories instead of fairy tales. This was one of the stories she had narrated to me and at that time I had been enchanted by one man catching the biggest fish in the ocean factor. Couple of years later my parents put m...

It was okay. I liked the calming prose, and the simplicity with which Hemingway writes, but the novella really didn't compel me! I'm glad to have read it, though.

Gripping! Hemingway exhibits his narrative mastery in this novella that feels racy even though for much of the time the action is only inside the protagonist's head. A story of perseverance. After 84 days of being unlucky in all his attempts to catch a fish, an old fisherman is taken out to sea by a large marlin.

UPDATE - 1/5/13 - at bottom It is intimidating to offer a truly critical look at such a classic, so we will ease into it with a few images. The GOP has offered us a ready-made item to begin this list, and yes, I know that John Stewart already snagged this one and threw it back.I turned up a visual ar...

As much as Ernest Hemingway has been blamed for his short sentences, his rapid and sometimes empty style, there is no way you can deny that not many writers can do a hundred pages of almost solely fishing. I'm talking here about the mechanics of fishing, about the technical terms and the do's and do...
