This is my second time reading it. First time I read it for school, but that was a long time ago. I read it again so I can properly rate it. It was pretty much boring. Mind you, I don't always say that all the classics are boring and stupid. I know that at time, this book was significant for literat...

This was the work that basically got Hemingway the Nobel prize and restored his reputation. It is more widely read than any other of Hemingway's novels. That's all a bit unfortunate, because at this point in time I've read four of his novels and I rate the other three higher. This book is good, but...

My English class has just finished up this book, my first encounter with a Hemingway novel. I found myself pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed reading it. The old man is an interesting character. He has some peculiarities that made me sympathise with him. He is at the same time hopeful and determined. It's pretty sad that I only decided to read this because I want to read The Old Man and the Wasteland. I'm sorry Mr. Hemingway!

a lovely short story. I'm surprised it won a nobel prize as it is really quite a simple tale. but very eloquently written.

Unfortunately, I saw the TV movie version of this book as a child (starring Anthony Quinn) which hindered my ability to use Hemingway's wonderful imagery... I thought the symbolism and the word choice were superb, however, it left me wondering why it won a Nobel Prize. I would recommend this b...

Though the style is simple and accessible to all, this book is undoubtedly a masterpiece. Hemingway has shown through this fiction the never-ending struggle of an old man ,Santiago, in his own element which is the sea and its unpredictable dwellers. His work has, once more, taught me that a masterpi...

The struggle between an old man and a very big fish. Or... is it the struggle between mankind and nature? I haven't been fishing in a very long time nor am I a big fan of fishing but I feel like going fishing now. For a very short book, it is quite suspenful, full of interesting description of inc...
