I’m not entirely sure Brandon Sanderson’s first dip into young adult literature should actually be considered young adult. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to the dreck that passes for most YA these days — a high concept world full of lovelorn teenagers, poorly written – but this felt more innocent ...
So this is basically Harry Potter with a much cooler magic system. What's not to love. :DI might be a bit biased since I adore Sanderson's work and will read (and probably like) anything and everything he publishes. I am still so fascinated with his ability to come up with such innovating and unique...
Pre-read reaction, October 2011:I have only a vague idea what it's about. But it's by Sanderson, so *cue droning robot voice* . . . I will read it. I must read it.Now:If an author came to me and said: "I have a great idea for a magic system. These guys called Rithmatists draw in chalk on the ground,...
From The BiblioSanctum.Huge fan of Brandon Sanderson here, which is why I was all over this book even though I knew it would take place outside of his Cosmere universe and be a little different from his usual epics. I admit I was mostly curious as to what reading a young adult fantasy novel by him w...
By now it's obvious that anything from the pen of Brandon Sanderson is going to be great. The Rithmatist is no exception. Once again, this story is fun, smart, VERY original, and left me wanting more.

I am a freaking huge Brandon Sanderson fan, so the opportunity to read his first YA novel was not one to pass up ;-). Like all Sanderson novels, The Rithmatist has a new and intriguing magic system, ...
I love this book. I expected to like it but I didn't think I would love it quiet the way I do. I'm still unsure about some of the chalk magic stuff, but I love the main characters and all the questions the story asks.
