This story takes a long time to get moving. Around page 100, I was wondering when things were going to start picking up. Ultimately, I think it suffers from being book 1 of a trilogy. There's no pressure to resolve the story. Plus, there are a lot of side scenes that are kind of interesting, but the...

I obviously wasn't in the mood for this read. It took so long to getsuffer through. A solid tale of vampirism that I would most likely enjoy more on the big-screen.

3.5 stars, with a slight nudge toward 4.I have had this book on my To-Read list for a while, but never got around to reading it until now. I'm glad that I read it because it was pretty good, and parts were very creepy. I didn't find it scary and had no problem sleeping or anything reading it, but th...

A nice and breezy read though nice isn't quite the right word and the breeze is a bit fetid! The Strain is an increasingly rare (ahem) strain of badass vampire novels. There are no well coiffed, sexy, maudlin vampires in this book, they just "vant to suck your blood" (without the Lugosi style Euro a...

This was probably a 3.5 star read for me. It was good, but it could have been better. I think the writing lacked a certain polish, although I did like some of the imagery. And it definitely was scary!Story:The vampires in this book were both disgusting and fearsome. I admit that thinking about th...

Wow! What a wild ride. I really enjoyed this one. I gave it 4 stars because the beginning was a bit dull. I'm glad I stuck with it because once the horror begins, it is awesome. I rarely get creeped out by horror books any more, but this one gave me the chills. These are no beautiful, sexy vampi...

This book just kept getting worse and worse. I finally had to give up on it.

This was such an uneven book - at times the writing was beautiful and evocative, and then suddenly there'd be some clunky, ungrammatical sentence that kicked me right out of the story... plus there's almost NO recovery time between the protagonist being told that vampires are real, and his almost ca...

I would have given this 2.5 stars, if that were possible. Although very fast-paced and entertaining, there were some gaping consistency problems throughout. However, these problems weren't enough to prevent me from picking up the next one in the series. This is some good "junk food" reading.
