It played rather like a movie; I liked it, but I just about gave up in the middle. Glad I stuck with it, though, and I think I'll read the next installment when it comes out.

There's one good thing ; No moon-struck adolescent girl will become infatuated with these vampires! The Strain starts out well. It builds up nicely. There is a lot of tension and the combination CSI / Dracula themes are woven together well. But once the threat becomes known, the novel falls apart. Th...

In a lot of ways this book felt more like a zombie novel than a vampire novel. Vampirism is a disease passed through a bite. As with zombies,(because a rouge vampire started the spread) the virus grows at an exponential rate and will wipe out humans in a short period of time. (I always wonder, did...

3.75 Stars Would recommend this book to any vampire/horror fan.If you are a fan of this genre then you know that vampire novels fit into three categories. Vampire are aliens/not of this earth. Vampires are a race separate from man. The Vampire is the result of a virus/parasite.Del Toro stays true to...

3 and 1/2 stars. This different take on vampires attempts to intertwine science, religion, epic myths and historical events. The writing isn't stellar but the entertainment factor and the gripping story edge that out in this one.

Another end of the world/vampire infestation novel. But this one didn't work as well for me as The Passage did.In this one I think there's a bit too much emphasis on the vampires feasting on their victims, and not enough on the rest of the story. I haven't quite desided whether or not I'll be readin...

A great read. I love that the vampires weren't romanticized in any way. It was nice to read a vampire horror book rather than romance :) Well I will definitely be reading the next one.

Dear Mr. Del Toro,Please stop writing and just stick to movies. They are very good movies. Pretty please with a cherry on top, just make good movies. I know people what have said about this book; there's like six pages of quotes before the story starts. But please stop.Or at least don't:1. Write i...

Seems these days if you want to make a buck, you gotta write a vampire story. Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed many vampire books out there but think the sub-genre has all but been bled dry. So along comes a book co-authored by visionary Guillermo Del Toro, a favorite movie director of mine, that...
