~ includes ALL the original illustrations (over 100) by John R. Neill, many of them in color, and a new Preface by Oz expert and Eltanin Editor Joseph Nusbaum. ~~

~~ From the Preface:
"The Tin Woodman of Oz was the last Oz book published in L. Frank Baum’s lifetime. Although he completed two more Oz manuscripts (The Magic of Oz and Glinda of Oz) before his death in May of 1919, Tin Woodman was the final Oz title that Baum was able to see in print, and allowed him to witness the public's reception of an Oz story one last time. Fortunately, it was a happy event, as Tin Woodman reversed a nearly decade-long decline in sales of Oz books — selling over 18,000 copies in its first year, establishing it as a bestseller. Its success also elevated the sales of previous Oz titles that had been released in prior years with less accomplishment. ... One interesting aspect of Tin Woodman, now nearly forgotten to the annals of Oz history, was the near rebranding of Oz aesthetics when Reilly & Lee, the Oz series publishing company, released a newly illustrated edition of the book. In mid-1900s, Reilly & Lee thought its perennially successful Oz series needed a modern facelift and hired Dale Conner Ulrey, a cartoonist who drew the Mary Worth syndicated comic strip, to “adapt” (according to the title page) the original illustrations by John R. Neill. ..."
