This goes for heroes too, but I feel like we read it so much more with heroines.
You're in trouble, may be in trouble, or trouble is coming. WHY DON'T YOU SAY SOMETHING?! There's almost never a good reason as to why she keeps silent. It's not pushing the drama, it's just pissing me off. And it makes the character look stupid as hell.
I am reading a series entirely based on the heroine not telling the cop hero about all the bad guys that want to kill/abduct/assault her. I can't explain why I am reading them when I know how stupid this is. I have a weird addiction to it. In the first book at least, half the cops were dirty so she didn't know if they were okay to tell. But that's been sorted out in the 2nd book and she knows he's a good cop. She still won't tell him why she has 2 guns, 3 tazers, a stun gun and a knife in various places in her apartment, which is he temporarily sharing with her. Crazy!
Does this encompass the secret baby trope?
Liz, that's slightly similar to what aim reading. The heroine won't tell the hero about her cop ex who is stalking her. Even though all this weird shit is going down in her house, clearly someone is coming on and out to freak her out. It's so stupid, there is NO reason for her not to say anything. I think I need to know what that series is so I don't read it. Sounds lie it would drive me batty.

No, that trope gets its own post as it's so prevalent and PISSES ME OFF SO FREAKING MUCH. In fact, going to make a post on that now.

It's Lori Foster but I can't find a series name. The first book is Run the Risk, second is Bare It All and third is Rowdy something. The first book had other problems as well, such as a mystery that is not mysterious and there's some instalove that's pretty unbelievable. I do think you should avoid this one.

I'm pretty sure I got it for free as well. It has a really cheesy cover - hero sitting around really slobby with his shirt open. But you might want to read the first one. Not trusting the cop/boyfriend was semi-reasonable in it since there's consensus among all the major players that a lot of the cops on this force are untrustworthy. He doesn't even trust his partner & vice versa. I was more bothered by engagement after 1 week of trauma.
The silent heroine nonsense is bugging me in the 2nd book.

Engagement after one week, ugh. That'll annoy me, too.
