Harriet Scott Chessman: Lydia Cassatt Reading the Morning Paper
The book centers on the relationship of impressionist painter Mary Cassatt and her syster Lydia, who (together with their parents) are living in Paris as American expatriats. The story is set after their move to Paris, but their living, to a certain extent, between two societies -- contrasting their Pennsylvania youth and upbringing with their present life in Paris -- does feature fairly prominently; and certainly Mary Cassatt is/was a "pilgrim" to Paris in the sense that it was the center of the late 19th century arts world and that was why she decided to move there in the first place.
