What I love about Sedaris is that unlike some other writers in his genre, he's not pretentious or snarky. He doesn't write above himself or his readers. He's just deadpan funny.
this book was entertaining, and smart, and i enjoyed sedaris' perspective on life, and family, and art, and crap. it was my first foray into his world, and i laughed out loud at least twice. that being said, the writing itself doesn't floor me -- he's a good storyteller, and i would love to be sitti...
Sedaris is very funny and is able to find and relate humor in everyday circumstances. He is not afraid to take on alcoholism, drug use and homosexuality (often in the same sentence). I am looking forward to more of his works.
I'm not sure why I thought I hated David Sedaris, or what made me want to read this book since I obviously thought I hated the author, but I'm glad I did. It doesn't disappoint; his comic voice is still strongly present, but the slightly more touching side of his authorial voice (as evident in his previous writin...
David Sedaris' books are always laugh-out-loud funny, and this one satisfies. I listened to the audio version, read by Mr. Sedaris - I could listen to him all day long - something about his delivery that I really like.
This isn't the best of David Sedaris, but it also isn't his worst by a long shot.I enjoyed how he takes the mundane every day details and spins them in a humorous, relatable way. Being a self proclaimed writer myself, I understand how hard of a thing this is to do and Sedaris seems to have mastered...
