The book gets 5 stars, the audiobook gets 1.Go buy the print book, but do NOT listen to this sing-song, idiotic, evisceration of a truly splendid novel. woot - magical realism has a new benchmark in my humble opinion! This is superb stuff, all the characters are so fully realised.
Titles are so hard to come up with...
A little too deep-thinking for my taste, but the writing and imagery was beautiful. I think that if I appreciated cities at all I would have gotten a lot more out of it. Anyway, it's still a great book.

I didn't like this book! In fact about 2/3 of the was through I asked myself why, why am I reading this? I couldn't care less about any of the characters. So I didn't finish it, and that is really unusual for me. I absolutely adored the author's book A Soldier of the Great War. What a let down this...

The language of this book is lyrical, complex, elevated, and dense. Sometimes too much so. Poetry is sparse on the page for a reason. Its hard to read 700 plus pages of such extremely evocative language and actually stay engaged with it. At times I found myself getting irritated by just how much...
