As a sequel of sorts to American Gods and based on word of mouth that told me that this was very much unlike the much darker predecessor, I wasn't sure what to expect, although, anything centred around Anansi promised to be charming. The book started rather slowly with a boring character, Fat Charlie...

It was interesting coming to this book straight after American Gods. In comparison, it was lighter, somewhat more Pratchett-esque. It wasn't until Spider's confrontation with Bird Woman that a darker edge came into the story, which rounded it out for me. Some brilliant ideas and wonderful words.

After American Gods, I was rather dissappointed. Yes - it's a good book. But not that good...

A semi-sequel to American Gods - more intimate in scope, more family-based than epic-pantheon... but just as much fun. Well, maybe not JUST as much fun, but still pretty fun. RB review: wp.me/pGVzJ-eY

Lovely novel, with a cute little story. I enjoyed the story and I may even read more of Gaiman, but I had to take a break halfway through because I generally found the story line to slow to a crawl in the middle. I gave the book two stars because of this need for a pause, but the story itself is a s...

This is a sort of companion novel to American Gods, but it has a very different feel. That comes from the branching off point, I expect. Neil Gaiman brings in his version of Anansi, Mr. Nancy, and promptly kills him, so the story can focus on his sons. One, Spider, is a bit too much of a trickster, ...

Probably one of the most boring main characters I have ever tried to read about. I eventually gave up, even after meeting more interesting characters like his brother and aunts (grandmothers?). Sure, a main character needs to have flaws, but there also has to be something interesting about him to ke...

I'm really not sure what I was expecting when a friend recommended this as a sort of sequel to American Gods. I will say I had high hopes and this book didn't disappoint. If anything I found this book better in some ways. The narrative flowed better and I was enmeshed almost from the first paragraph....

I got this book shortly after it came out, but I think I waited so long to get around to reading it because I had heard it described as a "companion piece" to 'American Gods' - and that book was, unfortunately, probably my least favorite of Gaiman's works.Happily (for me), I didn't find the tone of ...

Anansi Boys is like a rollercoaster without the loops, very few twists and one that keeps the speed to a minimum. You strap yourself in, ready for excitement that never materializes. My god, I've never felt more luke warm towards a book in my life. The mildly interesting story is of a somewhat relat...
