SAMPLE PROMPTS
Archaeology
A dangerous group takes your character hostage and forces her to help them find a mythical object. Why did this group choose your character to help with their mission? Does your character believe in the object they seek? Does she guide them correctly or attempt to lead them astray? What happens if they actually find the object?
Western
Open your story with the classic Western action scene: two characters in a pistol duel at high noon. Then, flashback to show how your characters reached this point. What made them enemies? What does each hope to gain through the other’s death? When you return to the duel, what could go wrong? Who lives and who dies?
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
If you're in a creative rut, know that I've been there, too. I spent far too long struggling with my inability to write, and it negatively affected several aspects of my life. That's why I wrote 100 Action & Adventure Writing Prompts – because I know what it's like to feel creatively empty, and I want to help other writers beat their own blocks.
In this booklet, I've combined techniques from my days in university (I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing) with the real-world lessons I learned from writing my own fiction novels. The result? A list of 100 prompts to get your creative gears spinning. But that's all I can do. The rest is up to you.
