This is a Summary & Analysis. James Patterson and Maxine Paetro’s latest instalment, continues the thrilling series as Club members’ careers shift and police systems around them struggle with corruption. A fast-paced, multi-threaded read, it serves to carry the series forward, bringing the eventual final confrontation with the head of a criminal organization all the closer. James Patterson and Maxine Paetro’s novel follows Lindsay Boxer, her friends and her husband as they investigate several crimes in San Francisco. Several of them end up being connected with each other, leading to and through investigations of corrupt policing and moving toward a confrontation with the enigmatic Kingfisher. A violent drug-lord, Kingfisher does not actually appear in the novel, but it is clear that the series is moving to pit Boxer against him directly; the novel offers the promise that when the confrontation comes, it will be intense and well worth the read.
The novel is largely set in San Francisco, California, in an indeterminate time that corresponds roughly to that of the novel’s publication.
