A violent drug-lord, Kingfisher does not actually appear in the novel, but it is clear that the series is moving to pit Boxer against him directly; the novel offers the promise that when the confrontation comes, it will be intense and well worth the read.
The novel is largely set in San Francisco, California, in an indeterminate time that corresponds roughly to that of the novel’s publication.
