Good book for an 11 or 12 year old girl. Strong female protagonist, deals a little bit with growing up, easy read, no skanky stuff.

Ah, well done. I enjoyed Alanna's adventures enormously. while not set in a known time and place, there's a strong Arthurian feel to this business of training the pages and squires and knights up to an ideal. There is as well a sort of boarding-school feel to it, given the lessons the boys receive. ...

This book was good fun. It doesn't feel like a complete story, which has the benefit of making the reader want to acquire the second book as soon as possible, but is also slightly frustrating. Her brother Thom has no aptitude for fighting, and is better at magic than her, so when she proposes that she disguise herself as a boy, and they swap places, he has no...

I love reading about how Alanna fits into life at the palace - her lessons and the friends she makes. I read ...

Love this story, and the audio book is very well done. Once I listen to the first book, I have to go all the way through.

One of the defining series of my childhood. A female positive fantasy series full of adventure! It's still fantastic years later.
