I'll give it 4.5 stars.I really enjoyed this one. You don't get into the characters' heads very much, but that's OK. The theme for this one is survival."She was thirty-five, and she did not look a minute younger." This was right in the beginning of the book and I knew I would love it and the charact...

No longer a vital city, Seattle is now completely walled off to contain a poisonous gas that now seeps from the city's underground areas after a man-made disaster caused havoc to the city center. The gas, called Blight, killed thousands of Seattle's inhabitants then caused them to be resurrected as ...

For some reason I found this a cumbersome book. Had to force myself to get through it. The plot was interesting and the genre and setting fun, but the writing was not engaging enough. Characters other then Briar did not seem well developed to me.

I started with this on audiobook. I was so taken with it that I went out and got the pages-and-paper version... complete with brown ink!The story is a rambling epic of the search for the prodigal son, in a Seattle inhabited by zombies, waifs and strays, and a scientist warlord. Then it got shelved, and t...

engaging but decidedly minor yarn featuring brave women, pirate airships, a zombie plague, and a battered & barricaded alternate seattle. the steampunk elements are of the american west variety, so as far as the atmosphere conveyed, this is more muggy days than foggy nights. enjoyable for the most p...

This is an awesome steampunk roller-coaster, full of action, adrenaline, and admirable (and not-so-admirable) characters. Ms. Priest really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one!
One Book Away From an Episode of Hoarders
Zombies, airships, pirates, mad scientists, adventure, and just an overall great read. If you like the steampunk genre, give this one a try.

In an alternate universe brilliant scientist Leviticus Blue created a machine that would help miners more easily locate and drill for gold. On its first test run things go awry and the machine wreaks havoc on bustling downtown Seattle, killing people and destroying buildings and several banks. But...
