In 1900 the printing company of Adolf Marx in Saint Petersburg published an anniversary edition of Gogol's Dead Souls featuring more than 350 black-and-white illustrations created by a group of Russian artists. The art editior and the main contributor to this outstanding work was Mechislav Dalkevich. Most of those remarkable illustrations are included in this edition.
