Even if one assumes that rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere lead to higher global temperatures, a carbon tax in the United States that reduces emissions domestically would have zero direct effect on foreign emissions if we acted alone. In fact, unilateral action by the U.S. would have very little effect on total global emissions. So should US Gov’t really adopt a policy to decrease global warming even if it results in a substantial increase in gas & electricity prices?
