Smart, but Dead
Smart, But Dead - Nancy G. West

I loved the first two books in this series so I was really excited to read this one. After all the brilliant humor in the first two books the absolute nonexistence of humor in this book was such a letdown. In fact I couldn't find anything that I loved from the first two books in this book.

I could not stand Aggie in this book. Usually her humor really shines but as I said before there was no humor in this. This time around Aggie seemed absolutely desperate and pathetic when it came to Sam and completely inept and over her head when it came to her investigation. Some of the comments Aggie made about Sam and her love for him were just downright weird and creepy. I am all for a relationship between the two of them and have been from the start but can't see how Aggie thought her behavior would make Sam love her.

Aggie spent the whole book bumbling about "investigating" a murder. There were some consequences to her investigation which I wholeheartedly felt she deserved. Her stubbornness at trying to solve what happened (so that Sam would love her) was just unbearable at times. If it weren't for the fact that I felt like I had to write a review for this, I probably would have given up on this halfway through. Not even the action towards the end could really even save this for me.

I am not sure whether there will be more books in this series but I do know that if there are I won't be reading them. I really loved this series but this book was such a one-eighty from the other two that I just can't take anymore chances on this.

(I received an egalley of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.)

Reading progress update: I've read 15%.
Smart, But Dead - Nancy G. West

I have really enjoyed reading this series so when I saw that this book was up on Netgalley I snagged it up right away. So far this had been good except for the fact that Aggie is really being creepy about her love for Sam. I honestly don't remember her being this in love with Sam in the previous books. It's just awkward now with how much she mentions her love for him. Don't get me wrong I am a strong supporter of those two being in a relationship but she just reminds me too much of a squealing teenage girl right now.

Dang Near Dead (Aggie Mundeen Mysteries, #2)
Dang Near Dead - Nancy G. West

She reminded me of myself at her age. Desperate to fly, but clueless about which way to go. She seemed to trust me. Maybe I could help. Somehow.

I loved the first book in this series so it was a no-brainer that I'd read this book. Aggie and her friends Sam and Meredith are back and this time they are on a dude ranch. They thought they would be going on a nice relaxing vacation where Aggie could get some material for her advice column but of course things are never just normal with Aggie. When one of the workers on the dude ranch goes into a coma after what appeared to be a horse riding accident Aggie does some investigating and realizes what appears to be an accident just might have been something more sinister.

This book contained just as much of the humor and mystery that I loved from the first book. What I really loved about this book is that while Aggie is still investigating on her own she and Sam managed to team up in this one. I loved seeing her working with Sam. I also really enjoyed that in this book Aggie and Sam's relationship is slowly but surely growing into something more. I still don't think that Sam will be made when he finds out Aggie's secret (I even think he might already know).

If you enjoyed the humor, twists, and mystery of the first book then you are sure to love this one. Thanks to NetGalley and Henery Press for the galley.

Fit to Be Dead (Aggie Mundeen Mysteries, #1)
Fit To Be Dead - Nancy G. West

I marched to the door, walking as straight as I could. It was hard to appear serious wearing a Garfield shirt and lime green warm-ups, barefoot, with wet hair drooping on one side, but I was.

After reading mysteries with a super serious main character, Aggie Mundeen is a breath of fresh air. This is the first book in the Aggie Mundeen Mysteries series and it follows Aggie who is a thirty-something woman who write a column Dear Aggie which gives out advice on how to stay fit. The only problem is that Aggie isn't giving advice based on personal experience but on research that she has done. So now Aggie has decided to work on herself and she joins a local fitness club, Fit and Firm. Aggie works out at Fit and Firm and ends up stumbling upon a mystery which leads to murder. Aggie then tries her best to solve it before her friend and police detective, Sam, can.

I really enjoyed following Aggie; she was funny, yet also clearly still had some vulnerability in regards to her past. The only thing that irked me a bit about her was her insane determination to find out who had committed the murder. She kept being attacked herself but she wouldn't stop. I also liked her friendship with Meredith and Sam. There was so much backstory in regards to Aggie and Sam that it kind of felt like I had started the series on book two instead of the first book in the series. I still understand what had happened but it was a lot to take in. I don't understand why Aggie is so frightened that Sam will be mad at her if she shares her secret with him. I think that Sam will be supportive and I think that he might even know about it already.

I did not see the twist at the end coming. When the murderer was revealed at the end I actually high-fived my kindle. That was definitely a great ending to the book and I look forward to reading more of this series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the galley.
