(...) Powinnam była się zorientować, że człowiek, który w taki sposób potraktował pierwszą żonę, nie zmieni się tylko dlatego, że teraz chodzi o mnie. Boże, jakie kobiety potrafią być głupie. Mamy przed nosem wszystkie możliwe dowody, ale durna próżność każe nam wierzyć, że my jesteśmy inne, że jesteśmy Tą Jedyną. Feministki twierdzą, że oczekiwania kobiet są wypaczone przez powieści romantyczne, ale, moim zdaniem, chodzi o coś znacznie gorszego. Myślę, że te książki jedynie odzwierciedlają zgubny gen autodestrukcji, który już w nas siedzi.

Poczucie własnej tożsamości i szacunku do siebie (...) są bardzo kruche. Kiedy człowiek nie wie, kim jest, łatwo stać się tym, co nas otacza.
