Barbara Cartland is one of my favourite romance novelists. Although her books are short compared to modern romance writers, they are just as effective.

Tears of love is one of my favourites. The book is around 200 pages (in tiny print). It tells the story of a secretary who works for a man who she thinks betrayed her father. An unlikely romance develops between them. 

Barbara Cartland captures the politics, society and scenery of Argentina beautifully in this well written book. 

A must read. 

If you're new to her books, you can start with this one. She has written more than 700 books during her long career. 

Whenever I am going to travel, I like to immerse myself in the place I am going.  

Romance novels set in a place like say PARIS let me turn to my husband and while gleeful clapping utter  "Ohhhh! This is where Patrick and Sarah kissed in The Chocolate Temptation!" And my love laughs and knows to kiss me in the same literarily important spot. It gets me tons of extra kisses which is always devine.  

I also do historical and food based reading in preparation but that is less interesting to discuss here.

Did not like the female character Selina. She is frustratingly feeble and whiny. She will do just what pleases everyone else around her, doesn’t have a backbone and can’t fight for herself. I sincerely doubt she has a brain or that she knows what she wants.

Irritated to the maximum with this outer beauty business and how everything just revolves around it and never one mention about personality traits however bad they may be. Also - grow a pair women! Seriously girly and poor me victim irritation!

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The Dasher/The Duke/The guy whose name appears only once in the entire book is a self-important asshole who thinks he is God's gift to the world. He is bored with women and insists he will never marry because women do not keep his interest. And no, he isn't gay. Felica (though in my mind I called her Felicia caused Felica is such an unfortunate name) had survived a traumatic childhood experienced and was saved by the Duke. Because of this, she has idolized him to a degree that made me uncomfortable most of the time but she is phobic of men. A few attempted kidnappings later along with some shocking realization that women can be intelligent, The Duke underwent some shocking realizations and had a tiny ego check. The concept that a woman has to be pure and inexperienced to be worth something did get on my nerves.

Overall, a sweet yet slightly ridiculous romance. HEA is assured.
