The Road Home
The Road Home - Elsa Winters,Brad Vance The Road Home - Elsa Winters,Brad Vance Starting this book I wasn't so sure I was going to like it. For some reason I kept on thinking the chapters would have alternating perspectives from Andrew and Nick but the story is told wholly from Nick's perspective and we learn quite a bit about him. That being said readers also get to know Andrew pretty darn well. The two don't get off on the right footing since Andrew is a prick to Nick. But Nick proves his muster on the job and earns the respect of everyone in the fire department he works with as an EMT. From there the two become quite close friends and Nick comes to realize he's in love with his work partner. He tries to fight his feelings to persevere their friendship. He does pretty well until Andrew breaks up with his girlfriend and he's asked to accompany Andrew on a road trip.

I enjoyed learning about Nick and Andrew. Nick's feelings were so clear cut through out the read and I did feel for him. I loved the dynamic between the two, the camaraderie and playfulness. I liked that they were supportive but never over pushed boundaries. I really wished to see these two maybe five to ten years down the line and seeing what kind of potential Nick aspired to. There was nice growth between them and I liked seeing what types of life experiences they had in common.

An free copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

More than I expected
Sam's Reluctant Submission - Brad Vance

This short was a lot more than I expected it to be. What I thought I’d be reading was a sex-filled borderline non-con or dub-con story. What I got was a well plotted introduction to two fascinating characters. Sure there was sex, and it was very hot and only consensual in the strictest sense of the word, but the story was much more than that.

What we are dealing with are two men who proclaim to be straight and yet…. While Sam clings to his heterosexuality with all his might and refuses to even contemplate that he might be tempted to experiment with other scenarios, Derek’s words are at complete odds with his behaviour.

Sam and Derek are also both well trained in combat and other military matters, making them formidable and well matched opponents. I loved how Sam had a memorised paragraph from his instruction manual for every single situation he found himself in while meeting Derek’s challenge—up to and including the moment he has to pay the price for losing the bet.

The only ‘problem’ I have with this story is that I’m now desperate to read the rest and won’t be able to do so for a few weeks at least. Oh well, I guess it gives me something to look forward to. I can’t wait to get to know these two men better. Intriguing as they are in this book I have no doubt they will get even more so as the story progresses. This was a very promising introduction to a new to me author.

Apollo's Curse - Brad Vance

Different. Unique. OK.

No on page smexy times.

I liked the mythology part a lot.

It  has a very long and at times dragging beginning but around 50% it's becoming better.

Werewolves of Brooklyn - Brad Vance

Sounds rather interesting to me :)

Get yours here:

Darien Mackey wasn’t looking for an adventure. For ten years, he’d been happy living in Brooklyn, working as a butcher in the same job, living in the same apartment, dating some “nothing-special” guys. Until one night his buddy Jacob talked him into taking ayahuasca, the soul-changing drug. And Darien had a vision…of a wolf, its all-too-human eyes on him, its paws on his chest, its enquiring mind in his own…

Darien Mackey is changing. He’s more confident, more assertive, hungrier, hornier. And his world is changing around him – his job, his home, his beloved Mechanic’s Library all falling victim to the predations of unscrupulous developers, bent on demolishing the old Brooklyn he loves and replacing it with a forest of condos. But he’s no longer a passive observer of his own life, and as this thing, this power, grows inside of him, he resolves to fight back, to preserve the way of life he loves.

And he’s not alone in the fight. The Lipsius Preservation Society of Brooklyn stands ready to assist in the battle, even though it seems like a bit of a joke to Darien, with its King and its Duke, Marquess, Earl and Viscount.

But there’s nothing funny about his growing attraction to Albeus Finley, King of this mysterious Court. And when slumlords and condo-mongers start to die mysterious, violent deaths at the hands of savage animals, Darien begins to realize that something is afoot in Brooklyn – something supernatural.

And it’s afoot in him, too…
