Retrospective of a Painter's Life: Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood
Cat's Eye - Margaret Atwood

Some twenty years have passed since painter Elaine Risley left Toronto, Canada. Now she is back for a retrospective exhibition of her work and memories of childhood and youth flood her mind. Many of them are one way or another related to her "best friend" Cordelia who bullied her in primary school until she lost her power over Elaine when she almost froze to death in a ravine. Although she almost forgot those difficult years, they had a lasting impact on her life... and her painting.

Beauty in Ruins chats with Kristi Charish (Owl and the City of Angels)

February 29th only comes around once every four years, so I figure let's celebrate in style by having the one-and-only Kristi Charish stop by for a chat!

A Scotsman In Enemy England: Midwinter by John Buchan
MIDWINTER - John Buchan

Midwinter by John Buchan is a historical spy novel and it's a good book.

The story is set in the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie, more precisely during the Jacobite rising of 1745/46, and its protagonist is a captain of the Scottish army travelling through England to join his Prince in Scotland. On his way he realises that his assumed friends are actually his foes trying to get rid of him with all means because they betray the Jacobite cause. He is helped by a not yet famous Samuel Johnson and a mysterious man called "Midwinter" rescues him ever again from almost certain death.

I wrote a long review of the novel on my main book blog which you can find following the link to Edith's Miscellany.

Rules of a Responsive Reality by Michael R. Fletcher (guest post)
Beyond Redemption - Michael R. Fletcher

Remember how the best episodes of any TV show were the ones that came in two parts? Remember how awesome the two-parter episodes of Magnum PI were? Anyway, this here is part one of a three part post on the rules of a responsive reality. Part two will be hosted by the Mighty Thor (James Schmidt) at https://wordpress.com/post/82427466/1416/ on November 11th, and part three will be hosted by the excellent Wendell at http://bookwraiths.com/.

Some background: My dark fantasy novel, Beyond Redemption, takes place in a world where reality is responsive to the whims and desires of humanity. Mass belief—be it shaped by religion, politics, or public opinion—can cause sweeping changes in physical reality. Conversely, a single person, if insane enough to believe the impossible with utter conviction, can also twist reality. What follows is a brief discussion of some aspects of that reality
