Reading progress update: I've read 12 out of 208 pages.
Phase Three: Marvel's Captain America: Civil War (Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Three) - Alex Irvine

Just so we're clear: I love English accents.   Bettany has become the Vision voice for me; I hear him as Bettany when I read the comics, or think of him speaking at all, ever.    So clearly more Bettany-Vision was a no-brainer for me.

And just in time for my birthday: this version of Doctor Strange comes out in early April :D

Anyway, fun so far, but no Vision as of yet.  I know he's not in a majority of the movie, but the time he cooks for Wanda, yes, please!   And I hope they at least make mention of his suits.   Which have become a minor fetish of mine.   Not the suits in general, just him wearing them.    I, like, obsess over that guys.   So very much.

And I need this tonight.   Turns out I'm not leaving for like a half hour.   There's dinner, then a visit at the hospital.

Loving this series!
Captain America (2012-2014) #22 - Rick Remender,Carlos Pacheco

I haven't read this in a while, but I picked it up, and I remember what happened before.   I'm loving this series, which was originally recommended to someone else.  I overheard it, and asked when the other customers didn't pick up this book.  I did, and I fell in love with Remender's run on Captain America.

I'm still loving this series.   This kicks off Old Man Rogers, and he's forced to watch as other people, his friends, rush off to fight Arnim Zola.

At the same time, the last time he saved the world?   Video of that is giving people cause to criticism him very publicly and voice their mistrust of superheroes.   Oops.   Basically, it's coming at him from all sides, and I'm eager to find out how he handles all of this.

I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Nope, nope, nope
FCBD 2016: Captain America #1 (Captain America: Steve Rogers (2016-)) - Javier Garron,Nick Spencer,Dan Slott,Jesus Saiz

I felt sick reading this.  It's for my single-issue bingo, since I need a comic I heard someone arguing about, and not only have I heard this, I've argued about it myself.   I didn't want to give money to Marvel for this atrocity, so I read the Free Comic Book Day issue, which was an introduction to both this and Dead No More, the Amazing Spider-Man storyline.   (And the Spider-Man story wasn't anything new; bringing characters back from the dead?   Seen it.   In multiple Marvel comics.   A hell-god?   Seen it.   In multiple Marvel comics.   Neither the specifics of that, nor the art in that, saved this issue.)

I can see where Spencer might be going a way I think he's not, but at this point, I don't trust that.  I certainly don't trust it enough to like this.   I hate that I side-eye Cap when I read stories about him now, but I do.

I'm going to read some of Remender's Cap run, because I need something recommended by the comic store staff, and I normally don't get recommendations.  I got that one because I overheard him recommending to someone else during a buy two, get the third free sale.   (This counted on sales book.  I loved the Cap storyline so much I bought the rest as e-books when they went on sale soon after I read the first couple graphic novels.)   But I feel like I might feel sick reading that, too.   It's a shame that this one event can color the history of a beloved character, but I can't really ignore what's been done to him.  I may try to pretend this didn't happen, but we'll see.

For now, nope, this didn't encourage me to buy, or invest my time, in either of these series.

Captain America
Captain America - Marvel Comics Captain America - Marvel Comics This Marvel Pocket Books Captain America collects Cap's Silver Age revival in Avengers #4 and some of his early adventures in Tales of Suspense.

When I was 10, my deaf uncle gave me this. While I had a couple issues of Captain America before, I'd obviously never experienced his first adventures after being revived for the Silver Age in Avengers #4. This was the book that first had me latch on to Captain America for a few years in the late 1980's and into the 90's. Yes, including Cap-Wolf.

Anyway, this book starts with Cap's silver age revival. The first thing that caught my eye was Jack Kirby's art. I'd forgotten how dynamic it really was back in the day. Secondly, it sums up Captain America's spirit nicely. A guy with few powers going up against Namor? Yes, please! The other Avengers were good too, I guess.

The next three stories were primarily extended fight scenes. One was against some of Baron Zemo's thugs, one against some guys who thought they could take the Avengers Mansion since only Cap was on duty, and the third was in a prison.

After that, Bucky is reintroduced and we get some new tales set during Captain America's World War II days, something they did to keep his solo adventures from conflicting with his appearances in the Avengers book, a far cry from Wolverine being in 487 comics a month until recently. The Red Skull is reintroduced and his origin revealed, for the first time if I remember correctly.

The stories are a tad repetitive when read in rapid succession but are pretty exciting for what they are. With the caveat that this is not a modern comic book and it has tremendous nostalgic and sentimental feelings for me, I have to rate it highly. It started me on the path to Captain America fandom and deepened my comics fandom. Four out of five stars.

Employee appreciation days=cheap books.

Me having money+employee appreciation days=me indulging in hardcovers.  I've already read the Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Avengers novelizations I got.  I'm considering picking up a hardcover version of Age of Ultron because I think they're prettier in paper, but I also hate spending money twice on the same book.  (I have to stop by B&N anyway later today, so I'll probably pick it up.)

I think there are a couple others, but I forget what they are.  I'm in the middle of mowing the lawn, and I'm taking a break because I was overheating.   I don't feel like getting up and double checking.

I also kinda am eying a couple about animals: Heart of the Lion and American Snake.
