Need

“Need” is one of the first paranormal books I have read in my life and I can tell you that I really enjoyed reading this book! “Need” is a paranormal book written by Carrie Jones and it is about how Zara White realizes that a mysterious stranger has followed her from her hometown Charleston to her new home in Maine. “Need” is a brilliant book that will be a huge hit for paranormal fans.

What can I say? Carrie Jones has really brought life to this paranormal romantic story. Carrie Jones has made the book extremely intense yet charming at the same time as Zara White is a truly wonderful character in this book. Zara is not afraid to speak her mind as she is genuinely interested in World Peace and she tells everyone her desire to be a pacifist with such passion that it makes her a truly admirable and courageous character. Another character who is truly memorable in this book is Nick Colt as he seems like a mysterious character, but as the story progresses, he becomes a close friend to Zara as he is willing to protect her from any danger. Carrie Jones brings creativity to this book as each chapter is named after various types of phobias that Zara experiences in her adventures in Maine such as one chapter being called “Didaskaleinophobia – fear of going to school” and another chapter is called “Sitophobia – fear of eating.”

For adults who do not like bad language in books, this book has a couple of mild profanities, but the profanities in this book are not as strong as some of the books and it might not affect many adults who dislike bad language in books.

“Need” is a truly mesmerizing book full of mystery and romance that any hardcore paranormal fan will for ages.

Time Stoppers
Time Stoppers - Carrie Jones Time Stoppers - Carrie Jones Probably great for middle readers. I'm not used to the style, and thought it felt a little clunky. Fun and slightly silly fantasy adventure story about friendship and acceptance. Issues of identity and confidence were handled nicely. I'd recommend it to kids 8-12 ish.

#PBwkendread Review: Need by Carrie Jones
Need - Carrie Jones

So my friend actually gave me this book to read and as I never heard of the author I was kind of wondering what her book would be about.

It is about the paranormal more in detail the pixies!!! It has been a hot minute since I actually read anything to do with pixies.

Now this book was very different you have each chapter start with the name of a phobia and the meaning which was very unique and I really liked it.

So you may be asking what will a phobia have to do with this book, well Zara likes to name them it shows that she has nothing to fear if she can name them.

I think the teens would really enjoy this book as there is really no violence, no bad words.

Zara's world is turned upside down when her step-father dies and she is sent to live with her grandma she doesn't want to be there at all especially since it is cold. We watch as Zara starts opening up and meeting new people though her new friends have a secret.

So as she has moved to Maine there is a mysterious man who she keeps seeing but who exactly is he? Why are boys starting to go missing? As Zara and her new friends dig up the information they discover there are pixies at work and they will not stop hunting Zara until they have her, you see these pixies are not like tinkerbell they are much more dangerous.

I really enjoyed the whole mysterious vibe that went on through out the story to who was who and what not. Also the little trick that Zara plays have to say was pretty smart. So overall a good story but something that bugged me was the fact that the author had kept mentioning the Amnesty International and how Zara was a big part of it. Now I can understand it being mentioned one or two times but I think the author did it a bit too much on that.

Dear Bully
Dear Bully: Seventy Authors Tell Their Stories - Megan Kelley Hall,Carrie Jones,Claudia Gabel,Courtney Sheinmel,Crissa-Jean Chappell,Cyn Balog,Cynthia Leitich Smith,Daniel Waters,Dawn Metcalf,Debbie Rigaud,Deborah Kerbel,Diana Rodriguez Wallach,A.S. King,Eric Luper,Erin Dionne,Alyson Noel,Amy Goldman Ko

70 authors contribute stories to this anthology about their experiences with bullying as victims, bullies, or observers.

Normally for anthologies I go through each story separately, but I’d feel weird about doing that with this book since these are all personal stories the authors are contributing to try to raise awareness about bullying and help stop it. Plus, there are 70 stories here, and they are all short, so I don’t have much to say for most of them.

Like most anthologies, this book had a mix of stories I loved, stories I was more neutral on, and stories I didn’t like. The biggest problem I had with the book was just the sheer number of stories that all shared similar themes. After a while, some of the stories started to blur together, and the book started to drag. While having a large number of stories allowed for a variety in experiences, 70 stories just felt like a bit much.

Despite that, the stories were moving, while heartbreaking and infuriating at times.
