#PBwkendread Review: Scariest Stories Ever Told
Scariest Stories Ever Told - Roberta Simpson Brown

I received an ARC copy of this book to give an honest review.

I wanted to read this book first to myself instead of to my 10 year old as I wanted to make sure the stories were not that scary for him. With that being said I have to say this is something I think he would really enjoy. I didn't feel them to be too scary just enjoyable.

Each of the short stories are different and creepy. If as an adult you are wanting something that will make you leave the light on this would not be for you. I think the target audience would be more of the pre-teens on up. I believe this book would be good to read around Halloween just because ghost and creepy things are meant to be read around that time.

I tried to find which story I really liked but I couldn't though I think one of the stories that stayed with me is called The Bookworm. This was one I was not expecting to go the way it did it was just oh man you know that will creep some kids out. If you are like me you like to introduce your kids into things slowly and this is one book that I would introduced my 10 year old into the whole scary/creepy genre.

#PBwkendread Review: Higher Ground Zero Hero
Higher Ground: Zero Hour - John T. Carpenter

I received this book to give an honest review.

So I was expecting a lot of the end of the world with this book but it didn't seem to really have that for me. It wasn't really action packed like I thought.

Yes it does talk of the end of the world seeming to happen via a virus which has hospitals filling up and the military not allowing planes to take off. Kent and his family have been preparing for something to happen with our world it is just a matter of time. His family and certain friends have been stacking up with supplies and learning how to shoot guns just in case. Which I think is a good thing, as you never know what could go down. Now we only get told that a virus has been let lose and we follow Kent and his friends as they go to their cabin in the woods. Along the way they meet others who they will take with them and some that need to be threatened.

I guess for me when I read end of the world books or what not I like to read what causes it and how people truly react. I think I like to read about chaos and how people survive it mainly. We see how some of the characters believe certain conspiracies could be about and it does make you think about things.

As far as characters they were all pretty good I didn't relate to any of them but I did relate to their survival instinct more.

I think the author did a good job with researching things and writing this story that will leave you wondering how will the world become now and what more will be brought these characters way.

The scene with the drone and ink was pretty neat. I could see my son wanting something like that just because it is cool.

#PBwkendread Review: Pomegranate Seeds
Pomegranate Seeds - Katy Kellogg

I won this paperback and I was glad to have. It sounded like a good book I started reading it and half way through it just fell a bit flat for me. We are introduced to Haleigh, Korbin and Elijah and we go back and forth with different p.o.v.'s from all three. Haleigh and Korbin are best friends and Elijah is Haleigh's boyfriend. We see the tension between Korbin and Elijah so when it escalates to the point that one of them is killed that is when Haleigh is brought into the world of angels and demons. Especially now that she has a tool within her body called the logos.  Between all three we learn what will happen to Haleigh while she has this tool within her and how all this supernatural works.

For me there was just not enough action within the story. Though I have to say the scene with the birds and the church had me going on my goodness attack of the birds.  I think that the teens would enjoy this book a whole lot more as there is no sex, and really no graphic violence at all. The way the book ended it seems that maybe there could more to come not really sure though as it seemed like and opening ending.

The characters were pretty decent. I really loved how Korbin and Haleigh were just best friends and that one had a crush on the other

#PBwkendread Review: Shutter
Shutter - Courtney Alameda

So the cover called to me on this one. I have to say it just screams "pick me up and read me."

So we get to meet Micheline and her friends who monster hunt but in a different way. Micheline uses cameras and mirrors to exorcise the ghost that she sees.

When they take on a job and do not wait for backup that is when things go down hill, all those that are in Micheline crew end up having a curse called a soulchain which is not good because they have seven days to destroy the entity that caused this or all they all die. Not too hard right? Well when Micheline learns who is behind it all she is in shock and she has to go through tragedy a second time.

I really enjoyed the world that the author created, the supernatural play a normal role in the world so it is normal for ghost and other paranormal to be about, since there is a team to handle it all. I also enjoyed how the author described certain paranormal entities like the scorpion. No it is not a real scorpion but made up of different parts so to speak and the way it moves oh lawd FEAKY!! For the description you are going to have to dive into the book.

I think the lineage of the characters was a great idea to put into the book. You have the Helsing's and the Stoker's. Yes the old school lineage is in this book but it is just their blood.

The characters were well developed i.m.o. and I thought Micheline's character was awesome. She didn't mind breaking the rules when she felt they needed to be broken, she is strong, and hard headed at times. Though it all comes together to make a good character.

I hope there is a book two out so I can read more about this world that has been created!

#PBwkendread Review: Surrounded by Sharks
Surrounded by Sharks - Michael Northrop

So this was my weekend read and I was surprised I finished it within 2 hours of actually sitting down and reading it. Now it is being categorized as middle grade young adult but I would read this to my nine year old. I think he would enjoy the adventure of a young boy named Davey who finds himself in a situation of hopefully being rescued before the sharks make a meal out of him.

The plot is super easy to follow, clean and the characters are very simple.

I really don't want to write too long of a review as I feel I would give too much away.

I really liked how Davey's brother Brandon sought out someone to listen to him as he knew what is brother would do and not do. We get a bit of insight from Davey on the types of sharks he sees while being in the ocean thank goodness for having some knowledge on that.
