Charlie und die Schokoladenfabrik // Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Charlie Und Die Schokoladenfabrik - Roald Dahl,Quentin Blake

***

Summary: Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last!

But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

My summary: Where is my golden ticket?

I just couldn't wish for a better start in the new reading year than with a Roald Dahl book. I decided to read all my unread Roald Dahl book that I own this january. That's plenty.

I just really love this story. I love the idea behind that fantasic factory, all the things you get to see and all the amazing things you get to do there. And I truly love Charlie and the whole Bucket family.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl,Quentin Blake

Grade Level: 3-5, 6-8

Lexile Level: 810L

This book is about a young boy named Charlie who grew up with less. One day, there is a contest to find a golden ticket in a chocolate bar made by a famous chocolatier, Mr. Willy Wonka. Charlie finds a ticket, visits the factory, and is given the prize of a lifetime. I would use this book as a read-aloud to my students during free time.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Quentin Blake,Roald Dahl

Willy Wonka's doors are finally opening again....but only 5 children are allowed in. Charlie Bucket is lucky number 5. The mysterious chocolate factory will be inherited by one of the 5 children. Wonka is looking for an honest, priority conscious child who he could trust with his pride and joy. Charlie Bucket may just be the person Willy Wonka has been looking for. This book has an intended audience of 4th grade. This relatively easy read allows the readers to dive deep into the setting of this novel and enjoy the creativity Ronald Dahl puts into his writing. An activity I could do with this book would be to have students create their own chocolate bar to sell as they became the new owner of the chocolate factory. They would have to design the wrapping and come up with a catchy slogan to go along with their invention. Let students have fun with their creativity and allow them to have brain breaks- which this activity would be great for!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory review
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl,Quentin Blake

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is another great classic by Ronald Dahl. This story is all about adventure, creativity, imagination, and priorities. This book would be great for teaching what is important in life (Charlie's willingness to give up the grand prize for his family). This book would spark such great imagination and creativity in students and I would definitely follow up with some kind of writing -  maybe have the kids "invent" their own candy, write about what they would do if they owned the chocolate factory, or write a letter to Willy Wonka. I would also want to incorporate some kind of drawing or coloring activity. I would use this text in 4th-6th grade. The guided reading level is R and the Lexile level is 810L.

About Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl,Quentin Blake

This book is a great way to engage some readers who may be disinterested, but have big imaginations. This book allows for plenty of imagination and creativity and is a "chapter book." I would use it in my classroom library for grades 3-6 in the hopes that students would find it interesting and engaging.
