My Fair Dork (Men of Holsum College, #8) by Daisy Harris 4 Star Review
My Fair Dork - Daisy Harris

They say a guy can never be too hung. Well, Harold Jacobs doesn’t know who they are, but they’re wrong. Socially awkward for as long as he can remember, Harold feels his enormous package is just one more thing to be embarrassed about. Especially once hunky and popular Owen McKenzie notices it in the showers. Owen knows he’s bi, but he keeps that secret close to his chest. He likes Harold, and wants to help him shed his dorky image and maybe even find a boyfriend. Still, Owen can’t stop obsessing about Harold’s equipment. And as much as he doesn’t want to flip-flop on his sexuality, Owen does want to test-drive what Harold has between his legs. Their friendship erupts into full-blown lust. But can Owen accept the loss of his golden-child status and be Harold’s boyfriend? And can Harold outgrow his insecurity in time to keep the man he loves?

Review

Owen and Harold really worked for me. I love that they seem very different but come together as friends and become a safe place for each other.

I am a bit of a sucker for the "too well hung" trope and like the way it is explored in this romance.

Owen is less likable than Harold but that is only until he lets himself just be. Harold gains more self assurance.

The love story is realistic, touching, and hot. All good stuff.

Bossy and the Brat (Men of Holsum College, #5) by Daisy Harris Review
Bossy and the Brat - Daisy Harris

Calvin Beaumont is a biology major, lab tech, and resident advisor—everything everyone expects him to be. There’s only one problem. He likes boys. In particular, a flirty dance major who was a freshman on his hall. It’s sizzling summer at Holsum College, and Tyler Burk isn’t a freshman anymore. When he notices his hardworking resident advisor has same-sex feelings, he goads, teases, and tempts Mr. Bossy into dating on the sly. Cal may not be out, but he’s domineeringly hot, and Tyler doesn’t mind keeping things quiet…for a while. But Calvin has wanted Tyler all year, and their sexting and secret rendezvous soon blossom into something neither one of them can control. Can Cal control his secret, as well as his sexy little brat? Or will he be man enough to admit he’s not the man everyone thought he was?

Review

I really like Cal and Tyler. Like how Tyler goes after Cal and doesn't give up. Its charming especially when it flips and it turns out Cal likes to be the boss.

This romance explored sexuality on several levels. Tyler hasn't been treated well by guys in the past and Cal is just deciding to be who he is.

We get a nice circle of friends and good character arc for our heroes in this New Adult romance.

Townie and the Twink (Men of Holsum College, #3) by Daisy Harris Review
Player and the Prude - Daisy Harris

Insightful to a fault, Gabe Ashton knows Nick Flynn’s gay even if Nick doesn’t. And after seeing how the townie looks at his "buddy," Gabe knows Nick is in love with a guy who’ll never love him back. So Gabe invites Nick to campus parties and to hang out with new people. But soon their friendship turns physical, and Gabe wonders if he’s in just as much denial as Nick is. Nick’s straight—or so he’s always assumed. But he can’t deny that the things he’s doing with Gabe are hot. More than that, he likes Gabe in a way he’s never liked anyone else. Well, anyone else except his high school friend, John. The hardest thing to give up is a fantasy, and the hardest thing to face is the truth. But if Nick wants the man standing in front of him, he’ll have to give up the one he never had

Review

I had avoided reading this series but well ManLove classic or not isn't a huge advertisement of thoughtful written romance. Also, this publisher can be a bit pricey and the books are never lendable so I can try a writer through lending without buying and with a ManLove title my library doesn't seem to carrying them...

However, I am liking this series.

Gabe goes after Nick. The part of the book where Gabe has superpowers of observation is a bit underdeveloped and a bit arrogant as well. I would have liked Gabe to grown as much in this book as Nick does.

Nick is well drawn. I love that he is a transfer student to the college and walking the working class/middle class change over that become more educated sometimes signals.

Gabe was very kind and loving to Nick and I liked the romance.

Diva and the Frat Boy (Men of Holsum College, #2) by Daisy Harris Review
Diva and the Frat Boy - Daisy Harris

Nathaniel Reece is savvy and fierce and wouldn’t give boring-ass Greg Sanders the time of day, except Greg is the president of a fraternity Nathaniel wants to join. But once Nathaniel gets a taste of the ferocity under Greg’s cool exterior, he can’t stop himself from trying to lure the uptight frat brother out of his shell. The face of gay life on campus and a crusader heading off to law school, Greg doesn’t see any problem with seducing the flamboyant and exciting Nathaniel. But that’s before he finds out his fraternity brothers are refusing Nathaniel's pledge bid. Greg’s athletic and masculine and has never had to deal with the censure of his friends or the odd looks of strangers, but if he’s going to be what Nathaniel needs, he’ll have to be comfortable not just being out, but also standing out.

Review

I like much of this romance. I love that Greg, the more conservative hero, has a big ole crush on Nathaniel. I like that they are both out and have come to terms with who they are.

We don't get as much character development as I would like. Greg is particularly sketched with sparse details of family or his basketball life. His journey is around the kinds of homophobia within the gay community and his role in being a bystander in too many situations. He has some movement on these issues but it would have been a richer book if there was more.

The main conflict is the kind of opposites attract and privilege that comes from being straight passing but there are racial and class tensions that are really not fully explored.

Nathaniel has his own journey and while we do know more about him in terms of family and other issues, we could know much more.

I believe they like each other but deep love needs a bit more than this book gives. There is a forever and forever declaration to all of these books that needs to be more earned but it was a nice read none the less and I liked these characters through out the whole series, all of which but Hunter's book, I bought.

College Boys (Men of Holsum College #1) by Daisy Harris Review
College Boys / Diva and the Frat Boy - Daisy Harris

When soccer star Chris Fischer moves next door to an openly gay classmate, he doesn't realize the wall between their rooms will be so thin he'll hear his neighbor's every move. But soon he and Peter become friends, and Chris is intrigued—imagining what happens on the other side of the wall. Active on the Queer Student Council, Peter Cohen wishes he wasn't so damn hot for his straight neighbor. He can't tell if Chris is flirting or in denial or what, but Chris's innocent overtures lure Peter into flirtation that throws his world into chaos. Peter doesn't want to date a closet case, but he desperately, passionately wants Chris. Soon Chris must choose whether to run away from his new feelings or embrace a relationship with the guy he loves. And Peter must decide if he can give his heart to a guy who hasn't yet figured it all out.

Review

This is a hot and sweet romance. It is a great tale of falling in love and takes particular care with showing how someone comes to understand their sexuality varies and there is no one correct way.

We get to see Chris' process while Peter supports him. There is a sweetness to this romance and you will believe in how in love they are.

Peter is a great character and we could have spent more time with him outside his relationship and relationship angst. Chris is a great guy as well.

I love the message of finding community in the book.

A nice start to a new adult series.
