My Best Paranormal Romance Reads of 2013
A Love Worth Biting For - Roxy Mews
Frost Burned - Patricia Briggs
Heart Fortune - Robin D. Owens
Soul Kissed - Erin Kellison
Wolf with Benefits - Shelly Laurenston
Darkness Rises - Dianne Duvall
Stone Guardian - Danielle Monsch
Logan & Jenna (The Wolf's Mate, #6) - R.E. Butler
Tiger Magic - Jennifer Ashley
Heart of Obsidian - Nalini Singh

As the year speeds towards December, I thought it would be fun to reflect on the best books in each sub genre of romance I read that were published in 2013.

I already did Contemporary Romance. So, next up is Paranormal Romance!

Oh how I love you, witches, shifters, and wonderful magic worlds.

Paranormal Romances are (according the RWA and they should know) romance novels in which the future, a fantasy world, or paranormal elements are an integral part of the plot.

Here are my top ten (11)  reads in this sub genre published this year.  They are in no particular order.

1. Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

2. Heart of Obsidian by Nalani Singh

3. Wolf With Benefits by Shelly Laurenston

4. Logan and Jenna by RE Butler

5. Tiger Magic by Jennifer Ashley

6. Stone Guardian by Danielle Monsch

7. Darkness Rises by Diane Duvall

8. MacRieve by Kresley Cole

9. Soul Kissed by Erin Kellison

10. Heart Fourtune by Robin Owens

11. A Love Worth Biting For by Roxie Mews

I am sure I have missed some great reads that came out in Paranormal Romance in 2013. Let me know!

If you would like to vote for the best of the best go to the Goodreads list: Reader's Choice: Best Paranormal Romance of 2013

Darkness Rises Review
Darkness Rises - Dianne Duvall

Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her "special abilities" aren't much, but the plan is simple--she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it's bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He's a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.

Etienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years--long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can't stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she's exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger too. He'll have to accept Krysta's help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher. .

Review

I have been excited about this series since I read the first book. The world building is great and the romances are light hearted, sexy, and touching, Here we have hot French Immortal who has a thing for very strong women and Krysta who kicks major ass as a vampire hunter. Their love story is quick and made much more exciting by mind reading.

There is a great deal going on in this book. Maybe a little too much as I might have enjoyed more relationship development as much as I liked seeing the couples and characters from other books. You will definitely want to read the other books before you read this one but is a good read.

Can't wait for several of the characters to meet their match and hope the Duvall spends a little more time on the romance next time but overall I am vampire romance happy.

I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it!

Night Reigns (Immortal Guardians)
Night Reigns - Dianne Duvall This is book two in the Immortal Guardians series. The novel has 284 pages on the Nook. Okay great series, really like Marcus, and Ami is a strong heroine. This group of immortals has a good story to tell and will keep you reading. Now waiting for the next installment.Ami isn't much for trusting strangers. She has a hard time trusting anyone. But she's no coward, and she's no pushover in the protection department either. So when she comes across a mysterious warrior taking on eight deranged vampires on his own, she doesn't hesitate to save his bacon. Of course, that was before she realized what one little rescue would get her into . . .Marcus Grayden has been an immortal protector of humanity for eight hundred years, and at the moment he's not interested in backup. From the moment Ami arrives in his life, he can't deny that she's strong, smart, and extremely skilled at watching his back. But she's also destroying his protective solitude and stirring desires he can't bear to awaken. After all, whatever her secrets — how can she defeat death itself?

Night Reigns (Immortal Guardians)
Night Reigns - Dianne Duvall Things you will need to read this book:1. A Suspension Of Disbelief hat. You need quite a bit of SOD to read most fantasy/paranormal books, but this one requires a touch more than usual. So get yourself the amazing SOD hat and it will help you through those tough times.2. The patience of a Saint. This is needed for all the time leading up to and including you finding out exactly who/what the heroine is. It is alluded to, it is hinted at, many wrong guesses will be made until you are literally shaking the book and screaming, "JUST TELL ME ALREADY!". If you can't get hold of the patience of a Saint I can recommend the patience of a Nun, the patience of a Shaolin Monk, or the patience of one of those guys who make those little ship in a bottle thingies.3. Some heavy duty make up and concealer. If you are planning on reading this book in public this is an absolute must to cover up all of those blushes. Yes, this book is just as hawt as the last one.4. And finally, you will need....to pre-order the next book! Because although this book wasn't quite as engrossing as the first one (I gave it 4 but really it's more like a 3.75 compared to the first one), this is still a very classy, well written paranormal book and any Paranormal Romance lover would be remiss not to add Dianne Duvall to their shelf. I certainly will be reading the next instalment, Phantom Shadows, when it hits the selves October 2nd, 2012.Originally Reviewed for Urban Fantasy Book Reviews.http://urbanfantasybookreviews.blogspot.com/

Night Reigns (Immortal Guardians)
Night Reigns - Dianne Duvall I am truly head over heels over this series. It's another guilty pleasure, of that I'm certain. The début novel was pretty amazing, and Night Reigns was no exception. I feel anxious for Bastien's story because I know it will be as beautiful as the previous ones. I don't even want to think about October 2012.... it's just so far away. *whimpers* A wonderful, witty, delicious and fun second book in the "Immortal Guardians" series. Keep them coming, Dianne! You're doing it wonderfully!
