Let Your Insanity Guide You
Moon Knight Vol. 1: Lunatic - Greg Smallwood,Jeff Lemire

There is an old thriller trope in which the hero wakes up in restraints in a mental hospital being told that their past is all a delusion. It is a cliche, but it gets used often because it always works. It is a frightening and exciting premise, questioning your identity and your own memories. It works well for a character like Moon Knight who has an established history of mental illness and it is a reasonable possibility that his superhero career might be delusional.

Sadly, Warren Ellis' run on MK ended after only 6 issues, and apparently that was his intended run. This was followed by 6 issues by Brian Wood, 5 issues by Cullen Bunn, and then Jeff Lemire wrote the book for 14 issues. This volume is the start of Lemire's brief run. I offer this as attempt to help anyone trying to figure out MK's convoluted recent publication history.

I didn't see any of this coming
Sentry (2018) #5 - Jeff Lemire,Joshua Cassara,Kim Jacinto

It's dark, it's twisted, and it surprised the hell out of me.

I pretty much just loved this miniseries.

Cranio
Sentry (2018) #3 - Jeff Lemire,Kim Jacinto,Joshua Cassara,Bryan Hitch

One of Sentry's old villains has returned - inside Sentry world.   But how?   It seems more and more as if Bob has been betrayed - but by whom?

And since he's out in the world on a probationary status, will he remain free if he can't control Sentry-world, or the Void?

Wow!
Sentry (2018) #2 - Jeff Lemire,Kim Jacinto,Bryan Hitch

I'm not into the Sentry as a character, but was lured in by the promise of Lemire's writing.   And I wasn't let down.   While this is a mini-series, I found each issue to be full of twists and turns.

The Sentry brings the Void with him, keeping the Void at bay by retreating to a magical world inside his mind where Bob Reynolds is the Sentry.   In the real world, he doesn't turn into the Sentry at all anymore.   And this compartmentalization of identities allows him to live half a live in each world.

But will that be enough, especially when someone steals the device that allows him to keep his identities separate via these two separate lives?   Who would know how to do it, and then be willing to steal it?

Down-to-earth tale about an imaginary town – not particularly uplifting
Royal City, Vol. 1: Next of Kin - Jeff L... Royal City, Vol. 1: Next of Kin - Jeff Lemire

In this comic collection, we meet a family living in Royal City, a town centred around a failing manufacturing plant. The family are introduced to us, one by one, as they deal with grief over a dead relative and how this affects their everyday life. The plot is straightforward and the artwork consists of simple drawings which are reasonably clear. There is nothing particularly cheery about the story at this stage. The story will continue in further volumes and is worth a look.
