Steam Sale for December 26

One of my favorite things to do at Christmas time is to play video games. Even though the only childhood video games I played were on the Atari 2600 (ah, memories), gaming is something I've spent more time on as an adult and enjoyed like crazy. So even though I don't do stockings at the fireplace anymore and most presents this year were virtual (huzzah for ebooks!) at the moment I'm off to adventure in Titan Quest (Immortal Throne expansion is vital, it's always cheap on Steam - go for the Titan Quest Gold option to get original game and expansion - you need both).

I'm not much for zombie shooter games, but hey, free is free, I can't complain with that! The catch: the sale ends at the end of the day. Also it's the second in the series, no idea if that means anything storywise.

Steam: Left 4 Dead, 2

(Hopefully that link'll work.)

My excuse of the moment is that I need to test this laptop (2006ish, old) to see if it can play anything newish (which is one of the reasons I'm playing Titan Quest. And Torchlight.). Because I don't think it's easily upgraded. Hopefully I'll remember to use headphones, because I'm pretty sure the parental units would wig out if they heard zombie noises from upstairs...

Left For Dead: A Maeve Kerrigan Story - Jane Casey I have had a couple of the Maeve Kerrigan books on my kindle for a while but hadn't got around to reading them. When I found that a short story prequel had been published I seized the opportunity and started reading immediately. It was a change reading a detective novel, and I read a lot of them, from a rookie's point of view. I really enjoyed my introduction to Maeve, liked her, and am interested in how her relationships with fellow characters develop over the series. I won't be leaving it long before I read another book by Jane Casey.

Left for Dead - Pete Nelson,Hunter Scott The sinking of the USS Indianapolis was a terrible tragedy made worse by the U.S. Navy's court marshalling of its Captain. This is the story of a young boys efforts to reverse an injustice dealt to an innocent man as a scapegoat. A touching testimonial and emotional recanting of a horrifying encounter in the Pacific ocean surrounded by sharks. Hunter Scott is an amazing boy (well now he's a man) with incredible perseverance in the face of the U.S. Government.

Left For Dead - J.A. Jance The story opens with the plight of an under-age runaway trapped in a sex-trafficking ring. Now that the eldest is 13, I fouud it a little too close to home to take. Maybe some other day, when both of the Offspring are all grown up.

Left for Dead: A Novel (Ali Reynolds)
Left For Dead - J.A. Jance I love J.A. Jance books. It was quick read, but oh so much fun. The main characters are like old friends.
