Review of "Vamps and the City" (Love at Stake, #2) by Kerrelyn Sparks
Vamps and the City - Kerrelyn Sparks

I actually don't have much to say about this one other than it was a fun, romp of a read. I liked the first book of this series better, possibly because less breezy.

I rooted for all the good guy characters. And it was good to see the harem from the first book get a good resolution in this one.  The bachelor style reality tv show, I think, was more interesting as an idea than in the actual execution of the concept.

The ending seemed kind of forced. As fun as the book was, everything was pretty predictable and in some instances too lighthearted or humorous. In other instances, the humor was spot on for me.

If I dwell on the ending too long, I'll start taking stars off my rating because was very much just too glib, almost deus ex machina

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Average.   Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked or meh? but kept reading in hopes would improve.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." If author is going batshit crazy in the blogosphere over reviews -- I now know why they are getting bad reviews.  Or maybe author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)

Review: Be Still My Vampire Heart — Funny and Entertaining!
Be Still My Vampire Heart - Kerrelyn Sparks

The best thing about all the books from this series — the ones that I have read so far — is that they don’t take themselves too seriously! They know they are silly and at times, you can even see the characters laughing at themselves or the silliness of the situation they are faced with. These books will make you laugh when you need a light-hearted read.

Another thing I like about these books is that while the male lead might do his best to be all caveman and overprotective, their female counterparts don’t let that stop them. In this book, the woman is a slayer and human, unlike the vampires she is hunting. The guy, a vampire, tries to order her away from her slaying, but she is having none of it. In the end, he tries to be there for her when she needs him. Smart guy!

Everything Ended With a HEA
Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire (Love at Stake) - Kerrelyn Sparks

The last book in a very fun and entertaining series. I will miss this family of shifters, humans, angels, vampires and mixes of all. All the books ended in a HEA for the two main characters .Even as each had an expected ending, I always felt exhilarated and even giggly when it happened every time. Each book had characters I liked, good people with differences. I was lucky enough to start this series after it was published and went through each book on after the other all in audiobook form. What a treat to not have to wait for the next book to be released. So having spent the last 6 months reading these 16 books, I grew to love them and cherish their happiness. Ah, it is a bittersweet end.
This last book is about a very special vampire, Russell, He is the Vietnam Vet who has been through years of torturous heartbreak, mental instability and loneliness. He finally finds someone that is more important to him than revenge. She just might be a challenge that is too feisty for him. Their search for relief ends in love and the evils all get wrapped up in a nice black trash bag. Whaooo for them ! Yes, it is a HEA what else would you expect ?
