Second to None (Second Glances) by Nancy Herkness
Second to None (A Second Glances Novella) - Nancy Herkness

Longing was a key element that was for Max and Emily. For Max love came at a time when he could not act on his feelings.  The man who seemed to have it all together was internally falling apart.  Kate is a woman with a great deal of plans.  Her work helps her through loss and a sense of guilt that has haunted her every waking moment.  Dealing with her emotions has never come easy, but nothing worth having ever is.  Ms. Herkness is a crafty storyteller.  She weaves intricate tales that have emotionally challenging themes, but can seduce the most critical of skeptics to open up their hearts and minds to her brand of temptation.

Good Story and Characters
The All-Star Antes Up (Wager of Hearts) - Nancy Herkness

Luke had overshot an interception in the few seconds of the game and the Patriots won. Luke was the quarterback for The New York Empire. He  got a sharp pain in his shoulder and that through his arm off. He went to the Bellwether Club but was only drinking water. The membership of this club required that you have a net worth in the ten figure range and had to be earned not inherited. Ben’s brother Trevor was back at his place also he was in no real hurry to go home. There was also at writer at the club and Luke actually read one of his series. The writer’s name was Gavin Miller but at the present he had writer’s block. The third man in the club is Nathan trainer and he invented the latest computer battery to this point. The three men made a bet to see who would find love and marry within the next year. Whoever did not marry had to auction off something valuable both to the public and themselves. That it would hurt these men to auction off. After he goes to go up to his place he sees his jerk of a brother requesting a female employee to do something improper. Luke was angry and let his brother know it. The employee’s name was Miranda. Then Luke and Miranda spend time getting to know each other. She is prim and proper not what Luke is used to. Miranda is determined she is not just going to be a fling for Luke.

I liked this story. It was a nice sweet read. This story is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone with no problems. I think Miranda and Luke toke a bit too long being cautious but that’s okay. The plot was good as was the writing. I really liked the characters. I also liked the ins and outs of the story. I recommend.

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

The All-Star Antes Up (Wager of Hearts #2) by Nancy Herkness
The All-Star Antes Up (Wager of Hearts) - Nancy Herkness

“No strings, no rings.” That’s Luke Archer’s motto. As the champion quarterback for the New York Empire—not to mention a self-made billionaire—Luke has given up on serious relationships. Women only want him for one thing: the thrill of being with a superstar. And he likes it that way too. But when his best friend announces he’s retiring from football to spend time with his wife and kids, Luke feels like he’s missing out on something much bigger than his career.

The assistant concierge in Luke’s luxury high-rise, Miranda Tate fled her family’s dairy farm to come to the bright lights of New York City. She works hard to move up and sends her spare earnings home to her brother. When she and Luke meet, there’s an instant sexual attraction which turns steamy quickly, but they’re in completely different leagues. Could Miranda be just the woman Luke needs to win the most important game of his life?

My Review:

The All-Star Antes Up is a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the fact that the emotional depth and soul exploration in how Luke discovers and really find himself and not just that but embraces his future potential as a person, a man and as a partner.

I felt the passion was really fantastic but the sex regardless of how steamy it was became second to the journey I felt myself as a reader was a part of. I really favor books that take both seduction and self development to a whole new level.

While most sports books aren't always a top favorite read for me but I had no problem cheering from the sidelines for our h/h and their victorious finish. Loved it!

The Place I Belong
The Place I Belong - Nancy Herkness,Shannon McManus

Dollycas 19s Thoughts

She did it again. Nancy Herkness continues to write books I quickly find myself lost in. This whole Whisper Horse theme touches me. I wish I had a whisper horse!!

All the main characters in this story are broken. Hannah was blamed for something any caring person who have done and the man that is supposed to love her turns his back on her. Adam had a very rough upbringing and his self esteem is lower than low. He tries to escape into his work but knows something is missing. Matt just lost his mother and is sent to his father, a man he doesn 19t know at all. Heck Adam didn 19t know about him either.

Herkness has written a wonderful story that is more than just a romance, these three people are almost reborn as they are surrounded by the caring community of Sanctuary, West Virginia. Don 19t worry, there are a few steamy romantic scenes too.

The author paints pictures so easily with her words. I could easily see all three of stories as movies. I love this escape!!
