Love, power, and magic collide with war in the second book of the Falling Kingdoms series

Auranos has fallen and the three kingdoms—Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia—are now united as one country called Mytica. But still, magic beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world...

When the evil King Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of events that will forever change the face of this land, forcing Cleo the dethroned princess, Magnus the reluctant heir, Lucia the haunted sorceress, and Jonas the desperate rebel to take steps they never could have imagined.

GCReaders,

Please tell me you've’ve read the first in this series, Falling Kingdoms? Please! I absolutely loved Falling Kingdoms, and now Rebel Spring… sigh. Everything I wished would happen, did. It was almost like Morgan Rhodes was inside my head. I absolutely love, love, love this series.

Rebel Spring was so much better than the first book, and I LOVED the first book. I did not think Morgan Rhodes can top Falling Kingdoms, but she did. It is very rare that the second book in a series is just as good as the first, if not better. Very rare! Morgan Rhodes pulled it off, though. I don't really know what to say. It’s one of those series that when someone asks you what you liked about it, all you can respond is EVERYTHING! I am also super happy with the romance. The story continues where it left off, and progresses a lot.

The emotions the characters go through came right off the pages, and I felt every single thing with them. Also, Cleo is such a kick-ass character! She is a fighter and will not quit until she has what she wants. Which is her life back. Well, what’s left of it.

Seriously, if you have not read Falling Kingdoms I highly recommend that you do. You will not regret picking this series up! Like I said, I loved EVERYTHING!

Review: Control by Lydia Kang
Control - Lydia Kang

Control
by Lydia Kang Hardcover, 400 pages
Expected publication: December 26th 2013
by Dial Books for Young Readers

An un-putdownable thriller for fans of Uglies

When a crash kills their father and leaves them orphaned, Zel knows she needs to protect her sister, Dyl. But before Zel has a plan, Dyl is taken by strangers using bizarre sensory weapons, and Zel finds herself in a safe house for teens who aren’t like any she’s ever seen before—teens who shouldn't even exist. Using broken-down technology, her new friends’ peculiar gifts, and her own grit, Zel must find a way to get her sister back from the kidnappers who think a powerful secret is encoded in Dyl’s DNA.

A spiraling, intense, romantic story set in 2150—in a world of automatic cars, nightclubs with auditory ecstasy drugs, and guys with four arms—this is about the human genetic “mistakes” that society wants to forget, and the way that outcasts can turn out to be heroes.

I still laugh when I think about this book because it’s one of those that I really enjoyed, but most of it I did not understand. So now I am sitting here trying to understand why I enjoyed it so much when I did not understand the way the world that Zel lives in, works.

One character has two heads? Did I read that correctly? Yes, I did.

Eventually I was able to understand a little bit of how it works and I think it’s like x-men… sort of. They are born with this gene… maybe? I kept on reading, though, and I am glad that I did.

Despite the creepiness of some of the characters, I actually really liked them. I think they are the reason I read Control from beginning to end. They were funny and treated each other like family. I knew I was going to love every single character from the scene when Zel enters their home for the first time. I actually burst out laughing. I was on a train home and laughed so loud the woman in front of me actually asked me what I was reading.

That is one of the great things about Control. It will make you laugh and totally creep you out at the same time, as well as frustrate you. The romance was one of my favorites, but it’s also what sort of ruined the ending for me. I cannot get to into detail because it’s a spoiler, but it left me feeling a bit angry. I wish things would have turned out different. It became a bit predictable and felt almost like it was for nothing.

I am curious to see how the next book plays out, though. I will definitely be continuing the series despite all my little issues. I still think it's a really good story and lots of readers are going to eat this one up. I recommend it. :)

Review: Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards
Black City - Elizabeth Richards
Phoenix - Elizabeth Richards
Title: Phoenix (A Black City Novel, Book #2) Released: June 2013 Publisher: G.P Putnam’s Sons GoodReadsAmazonBarnes and Noble

The much anticipated second book in the enthralling Black City series.

Engaged to be married, Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together, when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of the turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash votes in favor of Rose’s law—a law that will send Darklings and other dissenters to a deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.

Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings. The only way to save everyone is to escape Black City and find the Ora, a powerful weapon that could take down Purian Rose for good. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon is easier said than done, if it even exists, and becomes a quest that could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.

Fast-paced and absorbing, Phoenix is a delicious, steamy can’t-put-down read.

This book broke my heart, tickled it, made it race, and broke it all over again. I love this series, no secret at all, but with the way things ended, I have no clue what to think. I am so torn, but so excited at the same time. Elizabeth Richards is such an amazing writer, and Phoenix was just as good as the first.

Ash and Natalie will forever be my favorite book couple. I just love everything about them as a couple. Nothing really changes in Phoenix between them, except that their love gets tested, and their trust for one another. So much goes down and I want to share it all!!! There are some new characters that are introduced, secrets being revealed, a huge twist, tons of betrayal, and lots and lots of suspense. I literally wanted to bite all my nails off.

The new characters worried me a bit. I didn't know who could be trusted, and at one point I really thought the story was leading up to a love triangle. Rest easy everyone. Even though it seems like there is one, there isn't. Not sure how things will turn out in book three, but from everything in Phoenix, I can say I doubt there will be one, which makes me super happy. No one can replace Ash. NO ONE!

Phoenix delivered everything I wanted and more. I just cannot wait for the third book. It does have a sad ending, but one that leaves room for tons in the third book. I can only imagine what’s to come, and with Elizabeth Richard’s imagination, I am sure it will be just as raw and intense as Black City and Phoenix making it an epic ending. This is definitely a series I highly recommend. It does have to be read in order, though. Great sequel!
