Twists and Surprises...
Gone - Rebecca Muddiman
To The Edge of Shadows - Joanne Graham
Precious Thing - Colette Mcbeth
Someone Else's Wedding - Tamar Cohen
What It Takes - Terry Tyler
Before I Go to Sleep - S.J. Watson

KEEP CALM PLOT TWIST

The ‘twist in the tale’ is almost always a sure fire way to get on my good side.

A lot of the time I do see these coming sooner than I am supposed to, and that can be a dampener.

But every now and then I come across the genius author who grabs my book from me and whacks me over the head with it!

Here is a collection of some of my favourite twists and surprises… Find my reviews for these at Storm in the Stacks

before i go to sleep               WhatitTakes

someoneelsewedding     Precious Thing

edge shadows                gone

look closer

So there you have it.

Not a terribly huge list, I know. Like I said, I more often than not will foresee these things. But I desperately want this list to grow.

I am always looking for something that will shock me – but it has to work fluidly within the story and not be there for shock value’s sake.

So if you are an author who would like to challenge me, or you are a reader with a great recommendation then please do give me a shout.

In the meantime, here’s a top plot twist… SPOILER ALERT!!!

PO PLOT TWIST

Hehe. Happy reading y’all x

Precious Thing.
Precious Thing - Colette McBeth
Precious Thing is one of the books that have been buried in a huge TBR pile for months and I can't believe I waited so long to read it. A tale of two friends who were once very close and then something happens that drives them apart. The story jumps forward and backward in time, each  time it switched I was left needing to know what happened next. The twists are all the way through, some I saw. Most I didn't.
There is much to I want to say, but need to keep back. This is one of those books you definitely don't want to see any spoilers.

The new book The Life I Left Behind is published in July. I won't be waiting as long to read that one!

Precious Thing
Precious Thing - Colette McBeth

This book is filled with so many twists it just might give you whiplash. Precious Thing is about two childhood friends who reunite as adults and are then torn apart again. Rachel, who was shy and awkward as a child, now works as a news reporter and her life can't get any better. The same can't be said for her childhood best friend Clara. As a child Clara was the girl that everyone wanted to be friends with but as an adult her life is starting to spiral out of control. When Rachel is sent out on a story, which just happens to be the news of Clara's disappearance, her whole life is turned upside down and memories from her past come back to haunt her.

Rachel and Clara have a very complex friendship and you can see that throughout the book. They start their friendship being inseparable as children and like some friendships they grow apart as they get older. This isn't a normal friendship though, they grow apart because of some dark reasons. Those reasons kept being alluded to throughout the book and at times I became a bit frustrated because I was dying to know what they were. When they were finally revealed I was not disappointed.

I liked most of the twists of this book but sometimes it felt like a bit much, like overkill. Just when you thought you knew what was going on you realized that really you had no idea. I really enjoyed all the happened at the ending of the book and how readers finally get to see the characters as they really are. Overall I really enjoyed Precious Thing but at times felt a bit impatient to know what had happened.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the galley.

Reading progress update: I've read 25% "Precious Thing" by Colette McBeth.
Precious Thing - Colette McBeth

Ooh things are really starting to pick up and I am really enjoying this book. I like the fact that it is narrated by Rachel as though she is talking to Clara. Some twists have just been introduced into the story and I am excited to see where they take the story. I have a little inkling as to what I think happened and am eager to see if I am right or not.
