Honestly just go ahead and have the picture ready because most of your students won’t know what a wardrobe is and it’s a great way to go ahead and start new vocabulary right at the beginning. In all seriousness, I recommend any book written by C. S. Lewis but especially this book as well as the series that follows it. However, this book alone is such an exciting read for students to truly feel like they have their own secret world hidden in our classroom that we all get to go to together when we have shared reading. This book has, adventure, magic, war, humor, trials, and above all love and true sacrifice. It’s also an all time favorite of mine that grabs your attention and holds it to the very end. This book would be perfect for a lesson on character traits as well as comparing and contrasting the different siblings. I would love to have a creative writing entry in their journals as well where they describe what their own secret works would be like and how they would enter it. 

 

Guided Reading Level: T

The Lion, The with and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is such a good book to read. Its a story of four siblings who discover a hidden world within a wardrobe found while playing hide and seek. The children ar part of a great prophecy to help Aslan save Narna from the white witch. I would rate this book a four and a half out of five stars and it is listed as a 940L on the Lexile scale. As an activity for my class, I would read the book aloud to my class during group reading time. During the book (between the chapters each day that we stop) i would have a different activity set up for my students with activity sheets. One side that I would love to use it describing the characters given context clues from he book. I think this would be a great way to expand their knowledge of comprehension and context clues.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is an incredible novel by C.S. Lewis. I read this book in 5th grade with my class. It is about four children who make their way to a far away land called Narnia; there they become prisoners to an evil witch who calls herself the Queen of Narnia; huge sacrifices are made and war is brought up between the four children and the witch.

 

This story can be read in a 5th grade classroom; I would use this to have discussions on sacrifice, character analysis, and theme during the reading. You could also use this to do a compare and contrast between the four siblings, and describe the relationship between the four and how they work together. You can also have the students write about what it means to be a  hero and what makes Aslan a hero.

This was one of my favorite books growing up. I love how much creativity and imagination was put into it. Reading this book is like an adventure itself. You can truly visualize the settings, even though they’re unrealistic.

 

 

In the classroom, this book could be used for a class reading, literature circles, independent reading, etc. There is so much content that can be used for comprehension lessons also.

Novels were not a part of my life until my mid teens and therefore I missed out wonderful reading experiences like the Chronicles of Narnia but while I wish I had read more as a child I am having an absolute ball catching up on all these enchanting books when I can appreciate them on a different level

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is a compelling story that is both enchanting and filled with fantasy and adventure and I think can be appreciated by both adults and children alike.

Writen by C.S. Lewis in 1950 for his god daughter Lucy, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is part of a book series which is known as The Chronicles of Narnia. Set in England during the Second World War and tells the story of four children who are sent to the country to stay with a wealthy, eccentric professor in large county house. While playing hide and seek in the many rooms of the house on a rainy day one of the children discover a Wardrobe and the fantasy and adventure begins.

Beautifully written, intriguing even for someone like me with a low tolerance for fantasy. I was charmed with the setting, the atmosphere and the wonderful complex and charming characters I met along the way. I loved the themes explored in the novel and really enjoyed the reading experience as an adult.
