This is the second in The Montgomerys and Armstrongs series by Maya Banks. I had read the first one, Never Seduce a Scot, last year and it was a fun book. I felt like another Highlander romance and borrowed this one from the library on my kindle (love technology). 

It takes place right after Never Seduce a Scot, in which the female lead had been kidnapped by a rival clan. They get her back but leave a company of the Montgomerys and Armstrongs to take control of the McHugh clan. The guy who had kidnapped her had been killed during the last book, but his father, the leader of the clan, had escaped. Bowen Montgomery struggles to gain control of the clan, of which some are still loyal to their laird. 

His job is complicated when he meets Genevieve McInnes. He had met her briefly when they went to save his brother's wife as she directed them where to look. However, she is not of the McHugh clan, and had been captured and imprisoned for over a year by the same man who had held his sister-in-law. Despite the clan knowing of this, they put the blame on her. 

It's a good book, but I think I preferred the first one more.  I will likely read the last in the series whenever it is eventually released. For whatever reason, the first book was released in 2012, this one in 2013, and the last one has been delayed from September 2013 until 2016????

I've long known that Maya Banks is a master of writing, so it came to me as no surprise that this book was absolutely fantastic! I could feel every character, the plot was engaging and interesting, the writing outstanding--as always--and I was left with the widest grin on my face at the end - despite the fact I nearly cried on more than one occasion in this book.

I've always rather liked the whole theme of love-after-marriage. There is something rather compelling about a couple of people brought together by... well, for lack of better terms; fate and destiny. It's like God himself intervened and made sure these two people got together - whether they want to at first or not. 
And Never Seduce a Scot has exactly this theme and a couple perfect for each other.

Eveline is the heroine of the story, and she's one unique character. First of all - she's extremely adorable. Every time she smiled cutely and then patted Graeme's cheek I grinned like mad (Still am!). Then there is the fact that she's... well, deaf. As in - she can't hear. It was so unique and amazing to read about such a person, more so because Eveline's condition is based on Banks's husband's hearing condition. 
Aside for that, Eveline is just the sweetest, kindest soul out there, but she wasn't weak or meek. She knew what she wanted and she went for it with all her strength. 

Graeme... Well, yum. Do tell me where I can find highlanders like this. He's this...

The Montgomery and Armstrong clans have been at odds for so long they don’t even remember how the feud began but they despise each other all the same.
