The Two Gentlemen of Altona by Lisa Henry and J.A. Rock - My Thoughts
The Two Gentlemen of Altona - Lisa Henry,J.A. Rock

This first book of the Playing the Fool series/trilogy was a fun read.  Somewhat light-hearted, this tale of the meeting of the FBI Agent and the con-man read more like White Collar than Blindspot.

I liked both main characters.  They each had their set of quirks and flaws that made them more human and it was easy to see what was piquing the interest of one in the other.  They had good chemistry, I thought.

The suspenseful aspect of the book wasn't intricate or deep or anything.  And that was okay, this was ore of a get-to-know-ya type of story for the characters.  I will admit that the part of the FBI plot that had to do with the insider kept me guessing until the end.

The one problem I had was the cliff-hangery ending.  I had already bought the other two books of the series when I was halfway through this one, but had no idea that the ending would be so abrupt.  I find myself resentful when the endings are so, open-ended for want of a better word.  I get that Mac and Henry's tale is far from over, but jeez!!!

Anyway, I have the next two ready to go whenever I'm ready to get to them.  :)  Frequent readers of My Thoughts know I hate to binge read a series.  :)

So, yeah, good book.  :)

I really wanted to like this.
The Two Gentlemen of Altona - Lisa Henry,J.A. Rock

It had some good reviews and I like law enforcement stories.

What irked me to no end: the FBI agend main character who has no understanding of human nature. REALLY???? How is he supposed to do his job? According to his inner musings he enjoys being FBI and is supposedly really good at it. The question arises: at what part of the job???

This was more than ridiculous. And totally unnecessary.

It basically ruined this character for me.

Also, this didn't have much romance to speak of.

I didn't really like much about it, now that I think about it.

The Two Gentlemen of Altona
The Two Gentlemen of Altona - Lisa Henry,J.A. Rock An enjoyable m/m romance in which hard-nosed FBI agent Mac becomes involved with conman Henry who is witness to a mob murder. Moving on to book two.

Fun Start
The Two Gentlemen of Altona - Lisa Henry,J.A. Rock

Lisa Henry and JA Rock are tough writers who normally take me on heavy rides through deep stories. This was fun and I couldn't get enough. I Loved Henry Page and I loved Mac even more. Warning: This is a trilogy and I read them back-to-back-to-back because there has a serious cliffhanger.

**** 4 conning stars ****

-------------------------
"As a federal agent, I want you to know I'm disgusted by your lack of respect for the law."
"But you're impressed too," Henry said without turning around. "You're disguspressed."
"I am not disguspressed. Appalled, more like.
-------------------------

Loved Mac and Henry! Stuck-up Agent Mac gets shaken loose by the loose canon being Henry.
A light and funny read. Recommended!

Next, please!
