The weather is getting cooler, the Netflix queue is chock full of creepy flicks, and I can't focus on anything but the approach of Halloween. I always dedicate the month of October to horror and suspense reads (All Hallows Read, as per the Neil Gaiman tradition), and for me that really only means one thing: all Stephen King, all the time. I'm 100% sure that there are about a million other options out there, but I have never found another horror writer that I enjoy enough to read over and over again. While I hope to give Joe Hill a try soon, I'm not even sure if it counts as breaking out of my typical pattern, since I'm still within the same gene pool.
It's been a while since I've read anything new by Stephen King, and I was incredibly excited, but also possessed of more than a little trepidation, when I heard about Doctor Sleep. A sequel to The Shining!? This very well could be a horrible letdown, or it could be a classic 30 years in the making. I've re-read The Shining in preparation, and now it's time to dive in!
